Fifth Convocation Ceremony of Maharaja Surajmal Brij University Held

Governor Urges Universities to Foster Logical and Creative Thinking Through Research

Jaipur — Governor and Chancellor Shri Haribhau Bagde emphasized that the global landscape of knowledge is rapidly evolving, and due to scientific and technological research, the demand for skilled workers worldwide is increasing. He stated that youth must develop the ability to think logically and creatively, and prepare themselves by understanding the interconnections between various disciplines and adapting to changing circumstances.

The Governor was addressing the fifth convocation ceremony of Maharaja Surajmal Brij University on Tuesday at the BDA Auditorium in Bharatpur district.

Shri Bagde stressed that universities must have a systematic approach to assess intellectual abilities so that students’ skills and knowledge can be evaluated with transparency. “Education is like a seed that continuously enriches life. Just as a seed grows into a tree and provides oxygen, fruits, flowers, shade, and fuel to society, similarly, a well-educated individual should contribute their knowledge for the progress of society,” he said. He emphasized that the purpose of education should not be limited to earning a livelihood but should serve as a tool for guiding and uplifting society.

Highlighting India’s ancient cultural and educational heritage, the Governor said the Gurukul tradition, which combined research, inquiry, and holistic personal development, was once a leading model for higher education worldwide. Universities today, he urged, should preserve this ancient wisdom while fostering new research initiatives. “Research generates new knowledge. Youth must apply it for social advancement and become active participants in national development,” he noted.

He called on educators to make education more accessible and expansive, stating that broader outreach would lead to greater intellectual growth among youth. He also said that universities should formulate action plans to instill pride in India’s cultural and scientific heritage among students. “While Newton presented the theory of gravity in the 16th century, Indian mathematician Bhaskaracharya had already described gravitational forces in his work Lilavati much earlier,” he remarked. “At a time when the world had only six institutions of higher learning, India had two—Nalanda and Takshashila—which even attracted international students.”

Shri Bagde also observed that a greater number of female students participating in the convocation indicates the growing empowerment of women across all fields.

Deputy Chief Minister Dr. Premchand Bairwa said that universities are beacons of knowledge, from where light spreads in all directions through students. He encouraged teachers to impart the truths of ancient scriptures to students and nurture them intellectually, so they may guide society toward a better future.

During the ceremony, Vice Chancellor Professor Tribhuvan Sharma also presented a detailed overview of the university’s achievements.
