Just 10 Minutes of Rain Paralyzes Delhi, Kejriwal Slams BJP’s ‘Four Engines or Four Excuses?’
New Delhi : A brief 10-minute spell of rain on Tuesday exposed the fragile state of Delhi’s civic infrastructure, turning the national capital’s most elite and expensive area, Connaught Place, into a waterlogged mess. Roads resembled ponds, traffic came to a standstill, and residents were left stranded and frustrated.
Reacting sharply, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) national convener and former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal launched a scathing attack on the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) via a post on X (formerly Twitter). He wrote:
“If this is the condition of Connaught Place, the heart of Delhi, one can only imagine the plight of the rest of the city. Just 10 minutes of rain, and the roads have turned into lakes. Where has BJP brought Delhi in just five months? Is this the speed of the so-called ‘four-engine’ government?”
Kejriwal’s remarks were clearly aimed at Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, the BJP-led municipal corporation, and the Lieutenant Governor, all currently under BJP control. He questioned why accountability was still missing when the entire governance apparatus rested with a single party. He highlighted that if such severe waterlogging could happen in Delhi’s most high-profile locality, the condition in ordinary neighborhoods, villages, and slum clusters would likely be far worse.
The AAP further criticized the Rekha Gupta administration, branding it as a “government of event management and photo-ops.” The party alleged that in the last five months, not a single substantial initiative has been visible on the ground. “People had hoped a new face would bring real change. Instead, Delhi has been left to stagnate — no drain cleaning, no flood preparedness, and yet, the BJP government remains silent,” the statement read.
Kejriwal’s post has also sparked conversations on social media, with users recalling how the AAP government previously undertook extensive pre-monsoon drain cleaning and flood-prevention measures that delivered results on the ground. Many are now asking whether this is truly the BJP’s “four-engine” model — where none of the engines pull in the same direction, but are tangled in excuses and blame games — leaving the public to suffer.
With the monsoon only just beginning, the early signs already appear to be a serious warning for the BJP government in Delhi.
