Tamil Nadu Government Unveils State-Level Awards to Promote Organic Farming and Natural Agriculture
The Tamil Nadu Government has launched State-Level Awards for Organic Farming and Natural Agriculture with the aim of promoting sustainable and environmentally friendly farming practices across the state. A Government Order (GO) was issued in this regard on July 30, 2025, by the Department of Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare, under the leadership of Hon’ble Chief Minister M.K. Stalin.
These annual awards are part of the state’s larger mission to encourage the adoption of organic and natural farming methods among farmers. The initiative not only recognizes outstanding contributions in this field but also serves as an incentive for others to transition towards eco-friendly cultivation practices.
The awards will be presented every year in two categories:
- Organic Farming
- Natural Farming
Each category includes three levels of recognition:
- First Prize: ₹5 lakh
- Second Prize: ₹3 lakh
- Third Prize: ₹2 lakh
In total, six awards will be conferred annually, amounting to ₹18 lakh.
To ensure transparency and merit-based selection, a State-Level Selection Committee will be constituted. This committee will scrutinize applications and recommend eligible candidates for the awards. The Tamil Nadu Organic Certification Department has been designated as the nodal agency for executing the scheme and overseeing the application process.
This initiative aligns with the government’s broader vision of sustainable agriculture, improved soil health, and reduced dependence on chemical inputs. By honoring dedicated practitioners, Tamil Nadu aims to create role models and amplify the success of natural farming across all districts.
The scheme will be implemented with immediate effect, starting from the current year.
