Heavy Rain in Nagpur: Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis Reviews Situation
Nagpur : Heavy rains disrupted traffic and daily life in Nagpur city and district this morning. By afternoon, as the rain subsided and water drained from low-lying areas, normalcy returned. Deputy Chief Minister and Guardian Minister Devendra Fadnavis promptly contacted Divisional Commissioner Vijayalakshmi Bidri and the district administration to assess the situation. Considering the severity, a holiday was declared to avoid inconvenience for school children. Fadnavis instructed the administration to remain vigilant and ensure no further inconvenience to citizens.
The downpour began around six o’clock in the morning, flooding many low-lying areas. Collector Dr. Vipin Itankar personally visited various affected areas to monitor the situation. The Municipal Corporation and District Disaster Management Authority provided necessary assistance to those in need. By noon, disrupted traffic had returned to normal. Dr. Itankar conducted inspections in several parts of the city.
In rural Nagpur, rainwater entered settlements, trapping people in several areas. In Kamthi taluka, 15 people were rescued from Khedi, 12 from Pavangaon, and 10 from Mahalgaon. In Hingana taluka, 5 people trapped by Vena river floodwaters in Waghdhara were safely relocated by the SDRF. In Kuhi taluka, 21 houses collapsed, while 16 houses in Bhiwapur and 10 in Mauda were also affected. Revenue department teams are on-site conducting assessments and completing necessary procedures.
