Empowered Initiative of Baghmara Village Women in ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ Campaign

Over 6,000 National Flags Made So Far

A Symbol of Self-Reliance and Patriotism

Raipur, Aug 2025 : As part of the celebrations for Independence Day on August 15, the Har Ghar Tiranga campaign is being carried out with great enthusiasm. In Baghmara village of Balod district, the campaign has become an inspiring example of women’s empowerment and self-reliance. Women from four self-help groups here are actively engaged in making the national tricolor flag. So far, they have made over 6,000 flags, earning around ₹2 lakh in income.

This initiative has not only provided a new means of livelihood for local women but also deeply instilled a sense of patriotism and pride among them. The flags made by these groups are being sold through stalls set up in local markets, shops, and government offices.

Mrs. Tijan Bai from the Jai Kapileshwar Group shared, “Our sewing machines are running day and night. Each flag carries our love and patriotic spirit. This work is making us self-reliant while giving us the pride of serving the nation.”

Mrs. Devki Vishwakarma from the Saheli Group said, “Earlier, we depended on small odd jobs, but this campaign has given us a new identity. Making the tricolor is not just work — it’s a passion to do something for the country.”

Mrs. Sarojini Sahu from the Navjyoti Group proudly expressed, “When the flags we make flutter in homes across the village and district, we feel a deep sense of pride. Our aim is for every home to hoist the tricolor and for our village to lead in this campaign.”

Special care is being taken to ensure the quality of the flags. Using sewing machines, the women skillfully combine the three colors of the national flag — saffron, white, and green — with precision.

District Collector Mrs. Divya Umesh Mishra has appealed to all residents to actively participate in the Har Ghar Tiranga campaign, saying, “The tricolors made with hard work by these women’s groups will bring pride to your homes. Celebrate the festival of patriotism by hoisting the tricolor on August 15.”

According to the Assistant Project Officer of the Bihan Scheme, 13 self-help groups in the district have so far produced and sold over 8,000 flags, with an additional order for 5,000 more. The Har Ghar Tiranga campaign has become a strong source of livelihood for the women of Baghmara, moving them towards economic self-sufficiency.
