Ajit Pawar Orders Strict Traffic Planning for Ganesh Festival; State Committee to Complete Mumbai–Goa Highway Works
Mumbai, August 13: Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar has directed that strict traffic management measures be put in place during the Ganesh festival period to avoid congestion, and that incomplete works on the Mumbai–Goa Highway be completed urgently. A state-level committee under the chairmanship of the Public Works Minister will oversee the pending tasks in mission mode.
Speaking at a meeting in Mantralaya on the Mumbai–Goa National Highway, Pawar said that ₹21 crore will be allocated for road works near Indapur–Mangaon, and these must be completed immediately. The committee will focus on completing four-laning, filling potholes, installing informative signboards, constructing bridges, setting up trauma care centres, and building toilets every 40 kilometres along the highway.
He instructed district administrations to act swiftly on pothole complaints, appoint two special officers for this purpose, and ensure the public can directly contact them. During the festival, heavy construction works that could disrupt traffic should be halted. Raigad, Ratnagiri, and Sindhudurg administrations must survey major congestion points and arrange traffic diversions for heavy vehicles. Emergency services and medical facilities should be on standby in ghats and sharp turns.
The meeting was attended by Public Works Minister Shivrendra Raje Bhosale, Women & Child Development Minister Aditi Tatkare, MP Sunil Tatkare, and senior officials. Officials from the Konkan division and related highway authorities joined via video conferencing.
