Police duty goes beyond law and order: CM Yogi

Lucknow, Aug 2025 : On the occasion of Shri Krishna Janmashtami, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath attended a cultural programme at the Reserve Police Lines in Lucknow. Extending greetings to the police fraternity and the people of Uttar Pradesh, the CM urged police personnel to imbibe the ideals of Lord Krishna and work towards fostering peace and harmony in society. Calling the police the backbone of society, he said their duty extends beyond maintaining law and order, as they also play a vital role in promoting unity and social harmony.

The Chief Minister said that the incarnation of Lord Krishna in Mathura 5,000 years ago is not just a celebration, but also an enduring source of inspiration for citizens and police personnel in fulfilling their national duties. Quoting the teaching “Karmanye Vadhikaraste Ma Phaleshu Kadachana” as the foundation of duty, he noted that Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar reinforced the same spirit by including citizens’ duties in the Constitution. The CM urged police personnel to adopt this principle in their lives to help bring about positive change in society.

Quoting Lord Krishna’s teaching “Paritranaya Sadhunam Vinashaya Cha Dushkritam,” Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath said that protecting the virtuous and eliminating evil creates a positive environment in society. He added that the empowerment of righteous forces paves the way for peace, harmony, and development, while evil elements breed chaos and insecurity.

CM Yogi called upon police personnel to integrate the ideals of Lord Shri Krishna into their duties. He said that it is the responsibility of the police to completely reject negative forces and guide society on the path of unity and peace. He praised the grand celebrations of Janmashtami in police stations, police lines, and training centres, which reflect the solidarity and enthusiasm of the police family. CM directed the police personnel to consider these celebrations as a source of inspiration and continuously work to create a positive environment in the society.

On this occasion, CM witnessed the cultural programs organized by Lucknow Police Commissionerate, themed on patriotism and cultural richness. He appreciated the commitment and enthusiasm of the Lucknow Police family.

The event was attended by Cabinet Minister Swatantra Dev Singh, Rajya Sabha MP Dr. Dinesh Sharma, former minister and Legislative Council member Dr. Mahendra Singh, Mayor Sushma Kharkwal, MLA Neeraj Bora, Principal Secretary (Home) Sanjay Prasad, Director General of Police Rajeev Krishna, along with several senior police officers.
