Chief Minister Chairs Meeting on Aizawl Sustainable Urban Transport Project
Aizawl, Aug 2025: Chief Minister Pu Lalduhoma chaired a meeting today at his office to review the Project Readiness of the Aizawl Sustainable Urban Transport Project (ASUTP). The meeting was attended by UD & PA Minister Pu K. Sapdanga along with other senior officials.
Speaking at the session, Minister K. Sapdanga explained that with Aizawl city expanding rapidly, a comprehensive plan for urban mobility and traffic management had been prepared. He stated that the project would be implemented with financial assistance from the Asian Development Bank (ADB), while ensuring that the burden on the state government remains manageable.
UD & PA Secretary Pu Lalmalsawma Pachuau presented the key components of the proposed plan. These include:
- Urban mobility projects connecting Muallungthu to Sihphir, to meet the growing housing demand along the Lengpui Airport–Aizawl corridor.
- Development of a dedicated corridor between Kulikawn and Bawngkawn, with improved junction management.
- Upgradation of roads and junctions from Temple to Vaivakawn.
- Construction of major terminals for trucks, buses, and maxi cabs at three identified sites within Aizawl.
- Introduction of two exclusive routes for Electric Buses (EVs).
- Deployment of EV feeder buses on selected city roads to complement the main routes.
In addition, the Chief Minister noted that several other urban development projects may be integrated into this initiative in the coming phases, to further strengthen Aizawl’s transport infrastructure.
