KTR Slams Congress Over BC Reservation, Demands CM Revanth Lead Hunger Strike in Delhi
Hyderabad, Aug 31 : Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) Working President K.T. Rama Rao (KTR) launched a sharp attack on the Congress government on Sunday, accusing it of misleading the public on the crucial issue of Backward Classes (BC) reservation. Speaking during the debate on the Panchayat Raj Amendment Bill in the Telangana Assembly, KTR challenged Chief Minister Revanth Reddy to demonstrate genuine commitment to BCs.
“If the Chief Minister is truly dedicated to the welfare of backward classes, he should sit on an indefinite hunger strike at Jantar Mantar in Delhi until the Backward Classes Bill is passed. This is not about lobbying for appointments—it is about showing conviction,” KTR asserted. Drawing parallels with the Telangana statehood agitation, he added, “Just as KCR declared he would not return from Delhi without achieving Telangana, Revanth Reddy should remain in Delhi until the BC Bill is passed. The government must show that level of determination.”
BRS’ Track Record on BC Welfare
Highlighting the contributions of BRS, KTR recalled that party founder K. Chandrashekar Rao (KCR) was the first leader in the country to demand a dedicated OBC welfare ministry as early as 2004. “Soon after its formation, BRS rolled out a comprehensive BC policy. In the Telangana Assembly, we passed resolutions demanding caste census and OBC reservations in legislatures, which were forwarded to the Centre. Whenever we had the opportunity, we stood by BCs and weaker sections,” he said.
Criticism of Congress and BJP
Taking aim at Congress, KTR accused the party of repeatedly shifting its stance. “How can people trust a party that has changed its position on backward class reservations five times? This is nothing but a fraudulent sham,” he remarked. He further argued that both Congress and BJP lack sincerity on the issue, pointing out that only a constitutional amendment in Parliament could provide permanent guarantees for BC reservations.
Call for Concrete Action
Reiterating the BRS’ support for enhanced reservations, KTR declared: “On the demand for 42 percent BC reservation, we fully back the government. But laws must be crafted carefully—any loophole will invite judicial review and risk being struck down. Announcements alone are meaningless. What matters is real commitment.”
With his fiery speech, KTR positioned BRS as both a critic of Congress’ shifting stance and a defender of BC rights, signaling that the reservation issue will remain a major political battleground in Telangana.
