60 Women Engineers of PWD Lead the Initiative

Jaipur, Sept 2025: Under the joint initiative of the Public Works Department (PWD) and the Higher Education Department of Rajasthan, the Safe Road Campaign (SUSMA) has so far trained more than 2.51 lakh students from various government and private schools and colleges on road safety.

At a program organized at Maharani College on Wednesday, the India Book of Records recognized this as the “largest youth-led road safety campaign and safe road corridor development.” On this occasion, Deputy Chief Minister and PWD Minister Diya Kumari, who was the chief guest, was presented with a certificate and memento.

Praising the campaign, Deputy CM Diya Kumari said road safety awareness must become a part of daily life to bring about positive social change. She emphasized the importance of following rules such as wearing helmets, fastening seat belts, stopping at red lights, and avoiding mobile phone use while driving. She congratulated Chief Engineer (Quality Control) Jaswant Khatri, the department’s team, and other partners for this achievement.

₹1,500 Crore Road Restoration Works Planned
The Deputy CM announced that once the monsoon ends, road restoration and permanent repair works worth around ₹1,500 crore will be undertaken. She said the government’s priority is not only building new roads but also ensuring proper maintenance of existing ones, and that these works will be completed at the earliest.

Citizens’ Role in Ensuring Quality Roads
She urged citizens to act as responsible stakeholders by ensuring that roads constructed in their areas meet prescribed standards and use quality materials. She directed officials to soon make the PWD Service App available to the public for complaints. She also instructed that officials must spend at least two days a week in the field to inspect roads.

Campaign Led by 60 Women Engineers
The ongoing campaign, being conducted from August 9 to September 15 under the guidance of Chief Engineer (Quality Control) Jaswant Khatri, is training students on traffic rules, safety precautions, and road construction standards. The campaign is being spearheaded by 60 women engineers of the PWD.

The aim of the campaign is to raise awareness about road safety rules among youth, promote the use of helmets, and provide knowledge about safe road construction practices. To encourage safe riding, helmets worth ₹1,200–1,500 are being provided to students at a subsidized rate of just ₹300. So far, 6,444 students have received helmets under this initiative.

During the program, the Deputy CM also distributed helmets to students. Rajasthan University Vice Chancellor Alpana Kateja, Government Secretary D.R. Meghwal, Chief Engineer T.C.
