Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann Hospitalized Amid Flood Crisis, Cabinet Meeting Postponed

Chandigarh, Sept 2025 : Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann was admitted to Fortis Hospital in Mohali on Friday following a sudden deterioration in his health. Sources revealed that the Chief Minister had been feeling unwell for the past two days. Doctors attending to him reported that he is suffering from viral fever accompanied by digestive issues. Initially, Mann was managing his symptoms at home with medication and rest, but fluctuating blood pressure and increasing weakness prompted medical advice for hospital admission.

The Chief Minister’s hospitalization had an immediate impact on government functioning, with the Punjab Cabinet meeting scheduled for Friday in Chandigarh being postponed. Mann was set to preside over the session, which was to review ongoing flood relief and rescue operations in the state. Punjab is currently grappling with extensive flood damage, with a large number of villages and agricultural areas affected. Officials confirmed that the meeting would be rescheduled once the Chief Minister’s health stabilizes.

Earlier on Thursday, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) national convener and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal visited Mann at his official residence after learning about his health condition. Sources said Kejriwal inquired about Mann’s wellbeing and wished him a swift recovery. The Chief Minister had been scheduled to visit Sultanpur Lodhi with Kejriwal on Thursday to assess flood-affected areas, but his ill health forced him to cancel the visit. Sultanpur Lodhi and surrounding villages remain submerged, highlighting the severity of the ongoing flood crisis.

Punjab is facing a major flood emergency. According to official data, the floods have claimed the lives of 43 people so far, while approximately 1.71 lakh hectares of agricultural land have been heavily damaged. Relief and rescue operations are underway in the most affected districts, yet the situation continues to pose significant challenges. Thousands of residents have been displaced, leaving villages largely empty as people take shelter in relief camps. Authorities have assured that administrative work, particularly flood management, will continue uninterrupted despite the Chief Minister’s temporary absence.

The news of Mann’s hospitalization has sparked concern across political circles. Leaders from opposition parties, including Congress and Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD), expressed their wishes for a speedy recovery through social media messages. Political observers note that Mann’s health comes under scrutiny at a critical time for governance, especially given the flood emergency and ongoing administrative responsibilities.

A team of senior doctors at Fortis Hospital is closely monitoring the Chief Minister’s condition, which is currently reported as stable. Medical professionals have advised complete rest, and they expect his health to return to normal after a few days of observation.

Meanwhile, the public and flood-affected communities have shown overwhelming support for Mann’s recovery. Social media platforms are flooded with messages such as “Get well soon CM”, reflecting citizens’ hopes that he will soon resume leadership of the ongoing relief efforts. Residents particularly affected by the floods are looking forward to his recovery to guide and coordinate relief operations.

As Punjab continues to battle the flood crisis, officials emphasize that all necessary measures are in place to ensure uninterrupted relief work. Mann’s hospitalization is being treated as a precautionary measure, with full medical supervision ensuring his safe recovery.
