Chief Minister At North East Catholic Community Of Delhi (Neccod) Fresher’s Social
Aizawl, Sept 2025: Chief Minister Pu Lalduhoma attended the 33rd Fresher’s Social of the North East Catholic Community of Delhi (NECCOD) held at St. Xavier’s Sr. Secondary Millennium Hall, New Delhi. He was accompanied by Dr. Vanlalthlana, Minister of IPR & PS, and Pu Richard Vanlalhmangaiha, Member of Parliament.
In his address, the Chief Minister highlighted the significant role of the Catholic Church in India in the fields of education, healthcare, and community service. He noted that the Church has also made remarkable contributions in Mizoram through pioneering institutions. The Zoram Entu Pawl (Zoram Education Society) has been a strong supporter of students, with St. Paul’s High School, established in Aizawl in 1953 as the first high school, playing a foundational role. Today, Mizoram is proud to have some of the best high schools in the region, along with many excellent institutions across the state.
The Chief Minister also reflected on the legacy of distinguished leaders from the Catholic community and its institutions, such as Mizoram’s first Chief Minister Pu Ch. Chhunga, former Assam Public Service Commission Chairman Pu R. Thanhlira, Assam’s first Mizo Minister Pu A. Thanglura, and many others including Pu F.C. Nghina and Pu J. Lalsangzuala. He also acknowledged the importance of St. Anthony’s College, Shillong, the first college in North East India.
He urged students and youth to continue following the path set by their parents and elders, who have contributed greatly to society and nation-building. “Your service and leadership have brought pride to our state and continue to inspire future generations,” he said.
Speaking about NECCOD, the Chief Minister appreciated its role in uniting Catholics from the North East in Delhi and promoting both community bonding and cultural identity. He commended the organisation for successfully hosting its 33rd Fresher’s Social, which has been held annually for over three decades. Beyond religious and community service, NECCOD has played an important role in the welfare and social integration of North East students and families in the capital.
The Fresher’s Social featured Agnes Fanai as the Master of Ceremony. Pu Lucas L. Kamsuan, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Finance, was the chief guest. Pu B.K. Angam, President of NECCOD, delivered the welcome address, while Mr. Ngaopuni Manah, General Secretary, expressed gratitude. The event concluded with prayers and blessings offered by Rev. Fr. Vijay Baretto.
