Permanent Water Drainage System Planned for Ambala Cantonment Industrial Area: Anil Vij

Chandigarh, Sept 2025 – Haryana’s Energy, Transport & Labour Minister Sh. Anil Vij today said a comprehensive plan is being made for a permanent water drainage system in Ambala Cantonment Industrial Area. He directed officers to construct a water drainage tank, install large pipelines and establish high-power pumps to ensure rainwater is safely discharged into the Tangri River.

Sh. Vij said the project is expected to cost around Rs. 50 crore, and he has instructed the Public Health Engineering Department and Haryana State Industrial & Infrastructure Development Corporation (HSIIDC) to prepare a detailed project report at the earliest. He issued these directions while inspecting ongoing water drainage arrangements in the industrial area today.

Highlighting concerns raised by local entrepreneurs, Sh. Vij said, “Entrepreneurs informed me about the rising threat of thefts around the boundary wall. To enhance security, I have allocated Rs. 30 lakh from my discretionary fund for the installation of streetlights around the area. I have also advised the Industrial Area Association to install CCTV cameras along the boundary wall for complete safety of goods.”

Industrial Area is Our Lifeline: Vij

Sh. Vij stressed that the Ambala Cantonment Industrial Area is a lifeline for the region, providing employment to thousands through manufacturing and production. He said he has been visiting the industrial area for the past three days to oversee drainage efforts and expressed confidence that the water would be cleared completely by tomorrow evening.

On the complaints of increased theft incidents in recent days, Sh. Vij immediately directed the Ambala Superintendent of Police to deploy police personnel in the area until the situation stabilizes. He added that the police force must remain stationed permanently until drainage and safety are fully restored. Instructions were also issued on-site to the Ambala Cantt DSP and Mahesh Nagar SHO to ensure strict patrolling and surveillance across the industrial area.

The inspection was attended by several industrialists, including Subhash Dhiman, Subhash Mittal, Sanjeev Ahuja, Kapil Verma, Akhil Gupta, along with other senior officials.
