One Arrested in ₹7.56 Crore Tax Evasion Case by Maharashtra GST Department
Mumbai, Sept 2025 : The Maharashtra Goods and Services Tax (GST) Department has arrested Ankit Mahendrakumar Gandhi (36), owner of M/s KP Creation World, in connection with a tax evasion case amounting to ₹7.56 crore, according to a press release issued by the Deputy Commissioner of State Tax (Investigation-C). The arrest was made on September 3, 2025 during a special investigation drive against firms involved in tax fraud.
The probe revealed that Gandhi fraudulently availed fake Input Tax Credit (ITC) worth ₹7.56 crore without any actual movement or supply of goods. The ITC was allegedly obtained through invoices generated from non-existent or bogus taxpayers.
Following his arrest, Gandhi was produced before the Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate, Mumbai, who remanded him to judicial custody until September 17, 2025.
The operation was executed by State Tax Assistant Commissioners Dipti N. Pilare, Santosh D. Londhe, and Santosh R. Khedkar, along with inspectors and tax assistants. The crackdown was carried out under the guidance of Yasmin A. Molkar, Deputy Commissioner of State Tax (Investigation-C), Mumbai, and the Joint Commissioner of State Tax (Investigation-C), Mumbai.
This marks the 25th arrest in FY 2025–26 by the Maharashtra GST Department. The department has reiterated its strong warning to individuals and firms engaged in tax evasion through fake invoices, fictitious records, and fraudulent ITC claims or transfers, stressing that strict action will continue against such offenders.
