Health Services Reach Remote Village Konde Near Abujhmad in Bastar Division
Healthcare workers row across the Indravati River to deliver medical care under the ‘Swasth Nari, Sashakt Parivar’ campaign
Raipur, Sept 2025 : When it comes to extending health facilities to the remote areas of Bastar, one immediately thinks of dense forests and the swelling waters of the Indravati River. During the monsoon, reaching far-flung villages is considered extremely risky. Yet, under the leadership of Chief Minister Shri Vishnudev Sai and the guidance of Health Minister Shri Shyam Bihari Jaiswal, every health worker in the state has placed their duty above all else, prioritizing the saving of lives.
Expanding healthcare services in Naxal-affected districts has been one of the government’s top priorities. Today, quality healthcare is reaching people in regions such as Kanker, Bijapur, Sukma, and Dantewada. This is the result of good governance under Chief Minister Shri Vishnudev Sai, which has transformed the healthcare landscape of Bastar.
Health Secretary Shri Amit Kataria and Commissioner-cum-Director Dr. Priyanka Shukla remain committed to the expansion of health services across Chhattisgarh. In this spirit, the state-wide “Swasth Nari, Sashakt Parivar” (Healthy Women, Empowered Families) campaign has ensured the delivery of healthcare even to the most remote parts of Bijapur district.
On Saturday, a medical team rowed a boat across the turbulent Indravati River and set up a camp in Konde village, located near Abujhmad. A total of 132 patients were examined at this camp, with most cases relating to malaria, cold and cough, and skin diseases. Special attention was given to maternal health—10 pregnant women received complete check-ups, vaccinations, and counseling. Women were also educated on nutrition, anemia prevention, and safe motherhood practices.
In the past three days alone, the campaign has achieved remarkable progress in Bijapur district. Thousands of people have undergone health check-ups, including 3,177 cases of high blood pressure. Additionally, 2,823 women were screened for oral, breast, and cervical cancer, and were provided with the necessary consultations. Moreover, 314 pregnant women benefited from check-ups, vaccinations, and counseling. Camps held in remote areas under this initiative have also screened over 1,200 individuals for tuberculosis and more than 800 for sickle cell disease.
These figures are not just numbers; they stand as proof of the government’s commitment to ensuring that maternal and child health services are not hindered even in the most inaccessible corners of Bijapur. Health workers are crossing rivers, mountains, and forests to deliver life-saving care to women and children.
This effort strengthens the belief that “a healthy woman is the foundation of a strong family.” The continued expansion of health services under this campaign is its greatest success.
The ongoing improvements in healthcare across Bastar are not only enhancing the quality of life for local residents but also demonstrating that with good governance and dedicated efforts, even the most challenging regions can witness positive transformation.
