Students of Food Technology College Visit ‘Bihan’ Centre under Rural Livelihood Mission

Raipur, Sept 2025 : The students of the Food Technology College visited the ‘Bihan’ Centre operated under the Chhattisgarh State Rural Livelihood Mission (Bihan).

This educational tour was organized with the objective of familiarizing students with rural entrepreneurship, the functioning of small industries, and the ground realities of women’s empowerment.

During the visit, the students interacted with women of self-help groups and studied their working styles. These groups, organized under the ‘Bihan’ Mission, are engaged in running various enterprises. The students also observed the Millet Processing Unit, Bakery Unit, and Chips Manufacturing Unit, and learned about their operational systems.

At the Millet Processing Unit, students witnessed the cleaning, grading, packaging, and value-addition processes of coarse grains such as kodo and kutki. At the Bakery Unit, they gained insights into the production of cakes, cookies, and bread. At the Chips Manufacturing Unit, they were explained the entire process—from preparation of raw materials to packaging—in detail.

Dr. S.S. Sengar, Dean of the College, said that such educational tours provide students with practical knowledge and help them identify entrepreneurial opportunities at the rural level. He added that the visit was also an effective step toward understanding initiatives related to women’s empowerment, food processing, and the vision of an Atmanirbhar Bharat (self-reliant India).
