Forestry Students from Jhansi Begin Internship at Barnawapara Sanctuary Receiving Training in Wildlife Management and Conservation
Raipur, Sept 2025 : At Barnawapara Sanctuary, a two-week internship program is underway for 31 B.Sc. Forestry students from Rani Lakshmi Bai Central Agricultural University, Jhansi. The group includes 17 male and 14 female students. The training program runs from September 10 to September 24, 2025. Students have been divided into two groups and are receiving training at Barnawapara Sanctuary and the Devpur forest range.
During the internship, the students are gaining hands-on experience in various aspects of wildlife management and conservation. The activities include trekking and bird watching, habitat management techniques, identification of plants and trees, patrolling and anti-snare walks, understanding human-wildlife conflict and its solutions, soil and water conservation work, fire protection, use of forest-related mobile applications, community-based conservation, report writing, and presentation skills.
Divisional Forest Officer of Balodabazar, Shri Ganveer Dhammsheel, interacted with the students and shared details about various innovations being carried out in the Balodabazar Forest Division. He elaborated on initiatives such as the Jal Jungle Yatra, Yuvan Program, and conservation efforts driven by community participation. He also explained how public involvement plays a crucial role in wildlife conservation, eco-tourism, and forest-based livelihood enhancement.
The sanctuary is home to diverse species including the four-horned antelope, tiger, leopard, wild buffalo, python, barking deer, hyena, porcupine, chinkara, and blackbuck. It also offers much to bird enthusiasts. Students, divided into two groups of 15 and 16, explored the natural beauty and biodiversity of Barnawapara Sanctuary and engaged with local communities to understand the social dimensions of conservation work.
