Trump Unveils 20-Point Peace Plan to End Gaza War; Netanyahu Backs Proposal
Washington, Sept 2025 : US President Donald Trump on Monday formally unveiled a comprehensive 20-point peace plan aimed at ending the ongoing Israel-Hamas conflict in Gaza. The announcement came during a meeting with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu at the White House.
Addressing the media alongside Netanyahu, Trump emphasized that the plan could bring an immediate end to hostilities if Hamas agrees to its terms. “Now it’s time for Hamas to accept the terms of the plan that we’ve put forward today. I’m hearing Hamas wants to get this done,” Trump said, highlighting the potential for the release of hostages and a cessation of violence.
However, Trump also issued a stern warning: should Hamas reject the proposal, “Israel would have my full backing to finish the job of destroying the threat of Hamas.” Netanyahu echoed the sentiment, asserting that the plan meets Israel’s “war aims” while cautioning Hamas that failure to cooperate would leave Israel with no alternative. “It can be done the easy way or it can be done the hard way,” he stated.
Key Features of the Plan
The plan envisions the establishment of a temporary technocratic government in Gaza. Under the proposal, Israel pledges not to annex the Strip, and no residents would be forcibly displaced. If accepted, the plan mandates an immediate end to the war, with all captives—both alive and deceased—returned within 72 hours.
A new international transitional body, called the Board of Peace, will oversee governance in Gaza. Trump will chair the board, which also includes former UK Prime Minister Tony Blair. This body will manage the framework, funding, and redevelopment of Gaza until the Palestinian Authority completes a reform program to assume full control.
Hamas members willing to embrace peace would receive amnesty, while others would be offered safe passage abroad. Security in Gaza would be managed jointly by regional and international forces, who would also assist in training a reformed Palestinian police force. Humanitarian aid would be delivered at agreed levels, and the US will facilitate ongoing dialogue between Israelis and Palestinians to promote long-term coexistence.
International Response
Prior to Trump’s announcement, Riyad Mansour, head of the Palestinian Mission to the United Nations, reiterated the Palestinian Authority’s readiness to collaborate with the US, Saudi Arabia, and regional and international partners. “We reiterate Palestine’s readiness to work with President Trump and the US administration, with your European partners and the members of this distinguished Security Council, with the entire international community,” Mansour said.
Background
The Gaza war began nearly two years ago, on October 7, 2023, when Hamas launched an attack on Israel, killing 1,200 people and taking 251 hostages. Currently, approximately 48 hostages remain, with around 20 believed to be alive.
The conflict has exacted a heavy toll on Gaza, with over 66,000 Palestinians killed and widespread destruction across the territory. The Trump peace plan represents an effort to end the humanitarian crisis, restore stability, and pave the way for long-term Israeli-Palestinian coexistence.
