Navi Mumbai International Airport to Open on Oct 8: Gautam Adani Calls it a ‘Monument of Thousands of Hands and Hearts’
Navi Mumbai, Oct 2025 : The Navi Mumbai International Airport, scheduled to open next week, is being hailed as a “living wonder” shaped by the collective efforts of thousands, said Gautam Adani, Chairman of the Adani Group, on Wednesday. The world-class airport will be inaugurated on October 8, marking a major milestone in India’s aviation infrastructure.
Ahead of the launch, Adani paid tribute to the diverse workforce that contributed to the project, including differently abled colleagues, construction workers, women staff, engineers, artisans, fire fighters, and security guards.
“Ahead of the inauguration of Navi Mumbai International Airport on 8 Oct, I met with our differently-abled colleagues, construction workers, women staff, engineers, artisans, fire fighters, and the guards who helped bring this vision to life,” Adani shared in a post on social media platform X.
“I felt the pulse of a living wonder – a monument shaped by thousands of hands and hearts. When millions of flights take to the skies and billions walk through these halls, the spirit of these people will echo through every takeoff and every step. To them, I offer my deepest gratitude. Jai Hind.”
The Navi Mumbai International Airport Private Limited (NMIAL) is designed to handle both domestic and international traffic, equipped with cutting-edge facilities to meet global standards.
The airport boasts a 3,700-metre runway capable of accommodating large commercial aircraft, modern passenger terminals, and advanced air traffic control systems. It is expected to handle 20 million passengers annually (MPPA) in its first phase, easing the heavy load on Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport while strengthening India’s global connectivity.
Strategically located, the airport lies just 14 km from Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust (JNPT), 22 km from MIDC Taloja industrial area, 32 km from Thane, 35 km from Mumbai Port Trust via the Trans Harbour Link, and 40 km from Bhiwandi, India’s power loom hub. This proximity to ports and industrial clusters is expected to significantly boost trade and logistics efficiency.
Adding to its readiness, the airport received the Aerodrome Licence from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) on Tuesday, a mandatory approval for commencing operations. Airlines including IndiGo, Akasa Air, and Air India Express have already announced plans to begin services from the airport, connecting it to multiple domestic destinations in the initial phase.
The inauguration of the Navi Mumbai International Airport is seen not just as a boost to India’s aviation capacity, but also as a symbol of collaboration, perseverance, and national pride.
