Two Killed, 12 Injured in Gang Shootout in Alabama’s Capital City

New York, Oct 2025 : Two people were killed and 12 others injured when rival gangs exchanged gunfire in a crowded downtown area of Montgomery, the capital of the US state of Alabama, on Saturday night, police said.

According to Montgomery Police Chief James Graboys, three of the injured are in critical condition. Police received reports of the shooting around 11:30 p.m., describing the incident as a “mass shooting.”

“There were two groups shooting at each other in the middle of a crowd,” Graboys told reporters. “The shooters showed no regard for the innocent bystanders around them.”

Authorities said the shooting occurred in the city’s bustling tourist district, shortly after a football game between Tuskegee University and Morehouse College, which had drawn large crowds. Witnesses reported chaos as people fled the scene when gunfire erupted.

Graboys confirmed that seven of the victims are under the age of 17, with the youngest being 16. Lieutenant Tina McGriff told local media that the deceased include an adult woman, while at least two teenagers suffered serious injuries.

Police are currently searching for the suspects. “We are combing through evidence and interviewing potential witnesses,” Graboys said, adding, “We will do whatever we need to do to hold those responsible accountable.”

Montgomery Mayor Steven Reed condemned the violence, vowing action against those involved. “We’re going to use every resource we have to bring justice for this senseless act,” he said.

The Montgomery Police Department (MPD) confirmed that two juveniles are among those hospitalized, one in life-threatening condition. The identities of the deceased have not yet been released.

Authorities have urged anyone with information about the shooting to come forward as the investigation continues.
