Home Minister Inaugurates Mizo Writers’ Association LPR-5 Event

Aizawl, Oct 2025: Pu K. Sapdanga, Home Department Minister, this week at Vanapa Hall, inaugurated the Mizo Writers’ Association (MWA) Lehkhabu Pho Runpui Thawh Ngana (LPR-5) event. MWA members submitted 15 written works.

Minister Pu K. Sapdanga said that enabling MWA members to organize the LPR event is a commendable action. He noted that Mizo people preserve their culture through reading and writing, and through literature, they maintain the identity of the Mizo people. Regarding the importance of literature, he said that Mizo people can read and engage with high-quality Mizo writings, which strengthens cultural understanding.

The Minister highlighted that literature supports personal development, ethical conduct, training of students, and awareness over time, and MWA LPR-5 aims to enhance literary interest among youth.

Pu John Neihlaia, IPS (Retd.), Chief Information Commissioner, shared insights on RTI Week and the RTI Act, emphasizing its importance in promoting transparency in government operations. From October 7, 2025, within 19 years, 45,031 RTI applications were received at the Mizoram Information Commission, with 98% resolved without requiring appeals.

The event was chaired by Pu P.C. Lalrinpuia, LPR-5 Organizing Chairman, and welcomed by Pu R. Lallianzuala, MWA President. MWA Joint Secretary Pu C. Laizawna presented reports on the association’s activities. During LPR-5, Mizo writings at HSLC, HSSLC, BA, and MA levels were recognized with awards including the Ch. Pasena, Lalmama, R. Buchhawna, and J. Malsawma Proficiency Prizes. The event also highlighted literary analysis and historical writing.

LPR-5 Organising Secretary Pu K. Remruatfela reported that 103 writers submitted works for the LPR-5 publication.

Recognitions were also given for 2024 Best Literary Work Awards, including winners Pu Lalrinzuala Pachuau and Pu F. Vanlalrochana. Pu Rozama Chawngthu, MWA Vice President, also spoke during the event.

According to Pu R. Lallianzuala, the LPR series began in 2019, with hiatus in 2021, and subsequent editions in 2022, 2023, and 2024. This year, the event will culminate on October 16 at Vanapa Hall, showcasing the best Mizo literary works, supported by the Art & Culture Department, Mizoram Information Commission, Traditional Twist, and Pi Julie Lallianzuali (Lalbiakliana Filling Station).
