Dr. Jayant Narlikar Mathematics and Science Learning Enrichment ProgrammeWorld-Class Education to Reach Every Government School in Maharashtra
Mumbai, Oct 2025 : The Maharashtra Government has emphasized strengthening the foundational understanding of Mathematics and Science among all students. With this objective, and under the vision of Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, the state government has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Khan Academy to implement the “Dr. Jayant Narlikar Mathematics and Science Learning Enrichment Programme.”
This initiative, launched in honour of the eminent scientist Dr. Jayant Narlikar, who has inspired generations with his scientific outlook and spirit of curiosity, will benefit over 5 million (50 lakh) students across the state.
Under this programme, during the academic year 2025–26, Khan Academy’s world-class, curriculum-aligned digital content in Mathematics and Science will be integrated into the teaching and learning process of over 62,000 Zilla Parishad schools in Maharashtra, covering Grades 1 to 10. The content will be available in both Marathi and English languages.
Teachers will be able to use these educational videos to make classroom teaching more engaging and effective, while students will have the opportunity to strengthen conceptual understanding both in school and at home through video-based lessons and practice exercises.
As part of this collaboration, Khan Academy will provide Science learning materials for Grades 6 to 10 in Marathi and English, aligned with the Maharashtra State Board curriculum. Additionally, scholarship preparation courses for state-level scholarship examinations will be made available in both languages.
To enhance digital learning, every teacher in the state will get free access to “Khanmigo,” an AI-powered teaching assistant, enabling them to deliver interactive, effective, and holistic learning experiences for their students.
The programme will be jointly implemented by the State Education Department (under the leadership of the Commissioner of School Education) and the Maharashtra State Council of Educational Research and Training (MSCERT). Monitoring will be conducted under the supervision of the District Education Officer and the Chief Executive Officer (Zilla Parishad) with support from the District Institute of Education and Training (DIET).
A real-time programme dashboard will be used to provide continuous data on student engagement, learning time, and outcomes, ensuring transparent and measurable tracking of students’ progress.
The Dr. Jayant Narlikar Mathematics and Science Learning Enrichment Programme aims to provide high-quality, world-class educational content and equal learning opportunities for every student in the state. Regardless of geographical or socioeconomic background, each student will be able to build a strong foundation in Mathematics and Science — the subjects of the future.
Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis expressed confidence that this initiative will bridge geographical and resource gaps, empowering millions of students to learn with confidence, curiosity, and ambition.
