Maharashtra to Fully Support ‘Electric Truck’ Manufacturing : CM Devendra Fadnavis
Pune, Oct 2025 — Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said that the State Government will extend full support for the manufacturing of electric trucks, calling them a “revolution on wheels.” Speaking at the launch of Blue Energy Motors’ electric truck equipped with a swappable battery at Nighoje, Pune, the Chief Minister said the state will also support creating additional electric corridors similar to the Mumbai–Pune Electric Corridor.
Present at the event were MLAs Amit Gorakhe, Mahesh Landge, Babaji Kale, Police Commissioner Vinay Kumar Choubey, Blue Energy Motors’ Founder and Managing Director Anirudh Bhuwalkar, Dhirendra Shastri (Bageshwar Baba), Prashant Ruia, Anshuman Ruia, Amit Bajaj, Kaustubh Dhavse, and other dignitaries.
Fadnavis said that Blue Energy Motors has ushered in a new revolution in the electric vehicle sector. Since freight trucks contribute significantly to carbon emissions, the introduction of electric trucks was long awaited. Blue Energy’s Made in India cargo truck fulfills this need and aligns perfectly with the vision of ‘Make in India’.
He noted that the complex engineering and technological development behind this electric truck was conceptualized and executed in Maharashtra, particularly in Pune — a matter of great pride for the state. The project stems from an MoU signed earlier at Davos, and the company has moved swiftly to set up the plant. Maharashtra has adopted sustainable policies such as the EV Policy and the Alternative Fuel Policy to encourage industries in this sector while ensuring environmental protection.
The state government will collaborate with Blue Energy Motors to establish battery swapping and charging corridors beyond the Mumbai–Pune route as well. Since the trucks are competitively priced compared to diesel vehicles, Fadnavis expressed confidence that they will receive a strong market response.
Highlighting the innovation, the Chief Minister said the technology used in these electric trucks is well-suited to Indian conditions. The battery-swapping mechanism marks a major breakthrough in the EV sector. As battery costs decline and efficiency and lifespan improve, electric trucks will soon be able to travel 400 km on a single charge, up from the current 200 km.
“This is not just an electric truck—it’s ‘software on wheels’,” he remarked, calling it the beginning of a “Tesla-like movement” in cargo transportation. The truck’s smart sensors and diagnostic technology will help detect overloading, ensure compliance with traffic regulations, and prevent accidents.
He further stated that Maharashtra is accelerating solar energy generation and aims to source 70% of its power from solar energy by 2035.
Outcome of the Davos MoU:
The Chief Minister highlighted that the project was a direct result of the MoU signed with Blue Energy Motors during the World Economic Forum at Davos in January. Under this agreement, Blue Energy’s plant has now commenced production, beginning with 10,000 electric trucks in the first phase, with numbers expected to grow rapidly. Maharashtra continues to be the most preferred state for industrial investment, Fadnavis added, emphasizing that the project has already created employment opportunities.
In his opening remarks, Blue Energy Motors’ Founder and MD Anirudh Bhuwalkar shared that the company launched India’s first LNG-powered truck in September 2022 as an eco-friendly alternative for freight transportation. With EVs representing the future and the goal of achieving zero carbon emissions, the company has now launched its first swappable-battery electric truck.
CM Fadnavis Drives the Electric Truck:
Chief Minister Fadnavis personally drove the heavy-duty electric truck on the company premises, demonstrating a hands-on understanding of the new technology.
Earlier in the event, the Chief Minister inaugurated India’s first heavy-duty electric truck with a swappable battery, manufactured by Blue Energy Motors, and also launched the company’s Mumbai–Pune Electric Corridor.
