Chilli Cultivation Opens a New Path of Income for Farmer Sayo

Raipur, Oct 2025: Chief Minister Shri Vishnudev Sai has been encouraging farmers to become economically self-reliant by diversifying beyond traditional crops and adopting alternative agricultural practices. The Horticulture Department is motivating farmers to take up horticultural crops and vegetable cultivation to generate employment opportunities and ensure steady growth in their income.

To promote modern farming practices, the department is also providing training in advanced cultivation techniques. Through such technical support, farmers are being encouraged to enhance productivity and adopt improved crop varieties.

Inspired by these initiatives, many farmers are shifting from traditional farming to horticulture and vegetable cultivation. One such example is farmer Shri Sayo from Kerakona village in Manora development block. With technical guidance from the Horticulture Department, he ventured into horticultural crops. After inspecting his field and assessing local conditions, department officials advised him to cultivate chilli. Acting on this suggestion, Shri Sayo began chilli farming on his land.

Speaking about his experience, farmer Sayo shared that he received valuable technical guidance from the Horticulture Department about the importance and profitability of chilli cultivation. Out of his total 3.6 hectares of land, he dedicated 0.3 hectares to chilli production. Guided by departmental officials and encouraged by the strong demand for chilli in local markets and nearby mandis, he successfully cultivated the crop and earned good income.

He added that chilli farming has proven to be twice as profitable compared to his earlier traditional crops. Buoyed by this success, he expressed enthusiasm about expanding the area under chilli cultivation in the next crop season.
