Maharashtra’s Tableau to Participate at Kevadia, Gujarat, on Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel’s 150th Birth Anniversary

Department of Cultural Affairs to take part in ‘Bharat Parv’ celebrations from November 1–15, 2025

Mumbai, Oct 2025 : To mark the 150th birth anniversary (sesquicentennial year) of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, the Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India, is organizing a national parade and celebration at Kevadia, Gujarat, on October 31, 2025. For the first time, the State of Maharashtra will participate in this national event with a state tableau (cultural float) designed by the Department of Cultural Affairs, Government of Maharashtra.

This year’s tableau, built around the theme “Swarajya: The Thread of Unity,” showcases Maharashtra’s glorious heritage and spirit of oneness. At the forefront of the tableau is a majestic depiction of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj seated on his throne, symbolizing courage and leadership. Behind him stand figures representing the Warkari tradition, while the background displays the renowned Gurab ship from the historic Maratha naval fleet, reflecting the state’s maritime strength and legacy.

Through this artistic representation, the tableau highlights Maharashtra’s rich history, cultural pride, and enduring message of unity.

Accompanying the tableau will be a team of 14 performing artists, presenting a cultural performance that celebrates the diversity and unity of Maharashtra. Their presentation aims to emphasize the state’s distinct cultural identity at a national platform.

In addition, between November 1 and 15, 2025, as part of the “Bharat Parv” festival, the Departments of Cultural Affairs of Maharashtra and Goa will jointly organize cultural programmes showcasing the artistic traditions of both states. The main events of the festival will be held on November 7 and 8, 2025.

From Maharashtra, a troupe of 15 to 20 artists will perform traditional folk dances and musical presentations, including Gondhal dance, Koli dance, Lavani, and performances inspired by the Wari (pilgrimage) tradition, to portray the state’s vibrant folk heritage.

The concept of this initiative has been developed under the guidance of Minister for Cultural Affairs and Information Technology, Adv. Ashish Shelar, with direction from Dr. Kiran Kulkarni, Secretary, Department of Cultural Affairs.

These cultural presentations and the participation of Maharashtra’s tableau at the national celebration will effectively showcase the state’s historical, cultural, and folk traditions at both national and inter-state levels, reaffirming Maharashtra’s enduring contribution to India’s cultural identity.
