Sharda Corridor to Become a Hub of Faith, Culture, and Prosperity: Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami Reviews the Project

Dehradun, October 2025 : Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami reviewed the Sharda Corridor Development Project at the camp office located at Lohiyahead, Khatima, emphasizing that all construction work must reflect the sentiments of the people and respect local faith and traditions.

The Chief Minister said that the Sharda Corridor would emerge as a major centre of devotion, culture, and prosperity. The project aims to ensure the holistic development of nearly 200 square kilometres, transforming the area into a strong and attractive destination from religious, cultural, tourism, and environmental perspectives.

During the detailed review meeting, the Chief Minister examined the progress of 38 major works proposed under the project and instructed officials to complete all tasks within set timelines, maintaining the highest standards of quality, transparency, and accountability.

Key components of the project include:

  • Redevelopment of the Sharda Ghat
  • Implementation of City Drainage Plan-1
  • Restoration of Rankochi Mata Temple
  • Development of a heliport in Banbasa
  • Construction of a mountain bike trail from Chuka to Chalti
  • Establishment of an international border market in Banbasa
  • Beautification of the Shraddha Path riverfront
  • Preparation of a master plan for the Sharda Riverfront
  • Creation of aero sports facilities

Chief Minister Dhami directed officials to expedite land acquisition and transfer processes on priority and ensure timely execution of all construction activities. He also stressed that environmental protection must remain the top priority, and that all designs and architectural structures should be developed in harmony with the region’s traditional culture and heritage.

The Chief Minister instructed the implementing agency to set up a local office in the project area to accelerate work and prevent unnecessary delays.

He further stated that the government also plans to develop the Vivekananda Circuit in Lohaghat and to transform Maa Varahi Dham into a spiritual zone in the coming phases. Additionally, he announced plans to promote the region as a destination wedding hub and to build a Shaurya Sthal (Valour Memorial) in honour of the brave martyrs of the Army, Police, and paramilitary forces.

Chief Minister Dhami emphasized that the objective of this project is to preserve Tanakpur’s spiritual, cultural, and historical identity while enhancing the experience of tourists, devotees, and visitors. The Sharda Corridor is also expected to generate local employment and improve the overall standard of living in the region.

The project involves a proposed investment of approximately ₹3,300 crore, and work is being fast-tracked to ensure early completion. Once completed, the project will give Tanakpur city a new and distinct identity.

The meeting was attended by Champawat District Magistrate Manish Kumar, Udham Singh Nagar District Magistrate Nitin Singh Bhadauria, Additional District Magistrate (Champawat) Krishna Nath Goswami, Chief Development Officer Dr. G.S. Khati, other senior officials, and a large number of local residents.
