Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis Commends Land Rights Leases for the Poor in Nagpur
Nagpur : Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis expressed satisfaction over the arrangement of land rights leases for the poor in Nagpur, emphasizing that poverty cannot be eradicated until the poor have secure rights to land for their homes. He highlighted his commitment to development and social justice, reflecting on his efforts since becoming an MLA in 1999 to secure land plots for the poor in areas such as the labor colony and Tukdoji Nagar. Since then, approximately 25,000 poor individuals have received land plots through government decisions.
At a recent event held at Samaj Bhawan in Gajanan Nagar, Fadnavis handed over leases for 73 plots of land to their respective leaseholders. The ceremony, part of Revenue Week celebrations, was attended by Deputy Collector Sriram Mundada, Tehsildar Jitendra Shiktode, and numerous local citizens and women. Fadnavis addressed the longstanding issue of squatters and land ownership in cities like Nagpur, emphasizing the government’s commitment to resolving these issues in favor of social justice. He mentioned the strategic decision to compensate original landowners with Transferable Development Rights (TDR) and the effort to convert private land for public use to benefit the impoverished.
Fadnavis assured that the government is accelerating the process of granting land rights after a period of inactivity. He mentioned challenges such as misrecorded land entries and the steps taken to address them, including approaching the Supreme Court and securing a positive report from a court commissioner. He emphasized that no person will be deprived of their land rights and announced that the government will begin the land counting process at an official level.
Furthermore, Fadnavis highlighted the government’s social justice initiatives, including subsidies for constructing houses through the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana for those who obtain title deeds. He discussed various welfare schemes, such as the Ladaki Baheen Yojana for women, discounted travel, free gas cylinders, and educational fee waivers for girls pursuing higher education. He also mentioned the Chief Minister’s Work Training Scheme, which provides financial support to 10 lakh youths for tuition fees.
The event saw around 67 beneficiaries receiving land plots, with more distributions to follow. Fadnavis reiterated his commitment to ensuring that every eligible person receives the benefits they deserve.
