Rajasthan Launches 15-Day Statewide Road Safety Campaign to Curb Accidents

A 15-day Road Safety Campaign has been launched across Rajasthan from 4 to 18 November on the directions of Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma to prevent road accidents and strengthen road safety measures. The campaign aims to reduce road mishaps, strictly enforce traffic rules, and improve emergency response systems. The Chief Minister’s Office is closely monitoring the campaign through consolidated reports received from the Home Department.

To ensure the effective implementation of the campaign, responsibilities have been allocated department-wise. The Police Department has been designated the nodal agency and field coordinator, overseeing field-level coordination and supervision across the state. A special enforcement drive has begun against drunk driving, overspeeding, wrong-side driving, and dangerous driving. Legal action has also started against vehicles without reflectors or number plates. Police stations and traffic teams have been deployed on all highways and major roads for effective enforcement. Additionally, the functioning of highway mobile units and ambulances is being verified as per prescribed standards. Lane-driving discipline will be implemented on all six-lane highways following the National Highway-48 model.

Driving Licenses to Be Suspended for Drunk Driving & Overspeeding

The Transport and Road Safety Department has initiated strict action against overloading, unauthorized operations, and fitness violations. Driving licenses of offenders involved in drunk driving and overspeeding are being suspended or revoked. Vehicle-checking drives, installation of reflector tapes, road safety workshops, and awareness programs are being conducted.

Illegal Structures and Roadside Dhabas to Be Removed

Agencies including the PWD and NHAI will close all unauthorized road cuts on national and state highways within 15 days. White-lining, installation of railings or safety nets on dividers, clearing roadside bushes, and repairing shoulders and potholes have also begun. Warning signs, indicators, and signboards are being installed, while illegal roadside dhabas, bus stands, and unauthorized structures are being removed. A plan is being prepared for relocating unattended stray animals from accident-prone zones and reviewing service lanes and truck resting areas.

Eye Tests for Drivers Above 45 Years

The Health Department will conduct eye tests for all drivers above 45 years of age. Ambulance availability, trauma centers, and nearby hospital systems will be further strengthened to ensure timely medical assistance. The Urban Development and Local Bodies Department is removing encroachments on footpaths, repairing traffic lights and streetlights, and installing awareness banners, posters, and digital displays. No-entry timings for heavy vehicles in urban areas are also being reviewed.

Action Against Excessive Driving Hours

The Labour Department will take punitive action against transport companies forcing drivers to drive for excessively long hours. Inspections and awareness campaigns are underway to ensure compliance with work and rest hours. Monitoring is being carried out by district-level officers.

District Collectors and Superintendents of Police are jointly monitoring the campaign through district road safety committees. NGOs, volunteers, and local youth are being involved to promote helmet use, seat belts, avoiding mobile phones while driving, and use of dipper lights. Citizens who assist accident victims are also being honoured.
