PM Modi’s Heartwarming Interaction with Women’s World Cup Champions Goes Viral
New Delhi, Nov 2025 : Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s lively and informal interaction with the ICC Women’s World Cup–winning Indian cricket team has taken the internet by storm, with clips from the meeting highlighting laughter, warmth, and mutual respect. The newly crowned world champions met the Prime Minister at his residence on Lok Kalyan Marg on Wednesday, a day after their triumphant return to the country.

The Indian women’s team, led by skipper Harmanpreet Kaur, clinched their maiden ICC ODI World Cup title on Sunday with a commanding 52-run victory over South Africa in the final at Navi Mumbai’s DY Patil Stadium. The historic win ended India’s long wait for a major ICC trophy in women’s cricket and sparked nationwide celebrations.
On their arrival in New Delhi, the players were escorted under high security to meet the Prime Minister, who personally congratulated them on their feat. Dressed smartly in formal attire and proudly wearing their winners’ medals, the players were greeted warmly by PM Modi, who praised their exceptional resilience in the tournament—especially their ability to bounce back after three early losses in the league stage and the online trolling they had endured.

Team Shares Light Moments with PM Modi
During the interaction, Harmanpreet recalled their earlier meeting with the Prime Minister in 2017 after the Women’s World Cup, noting that this time the reunion felt even more special as they were able to present the trophy to him. “We hope we get the chance to meet you with more trophies in the future,” she said with a smile.
Vice-captain Smriti Mandhana said the Prime Minister’s encouragement over the years had motivated the team immensely. She also remarked that girls in India were excelling in every field today, crediting PM Modi’s initiatives for creating a more supportive environment for women across sectors.

Deepti Sharma, who was named Player of the Tournament, said she had long waited for this meeting. She recalled how PM Modi had encouraged them in 2017 to keep working hard to achieve their dreams—and added that his words had stayed with her ever since. PM Modi also spoke fondly about the “Jai Shri Ram” message on Deepti’s Instagram bio and her Hanuman ji tattoo, to which the all-rounder said both gave her inner strength.
Harmanpreet asked PM Modi how he remained constantly present-minded despite his busy schedule. The Prime Minister replied that mindfulness had always been a natural part of his personality and had gradually become a habit over time.

PM Modi Recalls Iconic Moments from the Tournament
PM Modi surprised the players with his detailed recollection of their performances. He mentioned Harleen Deol’s famous 2021 boundary catch against England—an effort that had once gone viral and won global praise. He also discussed Harmanpreet’s iconic moment of pocketing the match ball after the World Cup final, prompting laughter around the room. Harmanpreet said she simply felt fortunate that the ball had come to her and wanted to keep the memory forever.
He further spoke about Amanjot Kaur’s now-famous fumble-turned-catch during the tournament. Amanjot laughed and said it was one fumble she genuinely enjoyed watching. PM Modi jokingly added, “While catching, you see the ball; after catching, you see the trophy.”
Fast bowler Kranti Gaud shared that her brother was a huge admirer of the Prime Minister. In response, PM Modi instantly extended an open invitation for her family to visit, further adding to the warmth of the meeting.
Pratika Rawal—who suffered an ankle injury during the washed-out match against Bangladesh and missed the knockouts—also attended the gathering in a wheelchair. PM Modi spent time with her too, acknowledging the emotional challenges of missing out on crucial matches.
PM Modi Underscores Importance of Fitness
The Prime Minister encouraged the players to promote the message of Fit India, especially among young girls across the country. He expressed concern over rising obesity levels and urged the team to visit schools, interact with children, and inspire them to adopt active, healthier lifestyles.
Nation Celebrates Historic Win
PM Modi had been among the first to congratulate the team after their World Cup victory. In a widely shared post, he wrote:
“A spectacular win by the Indian team in the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025 Finals. Their performance was marked by skill, confidence, teamwork and tenacity. This historic win will inspire future champions to take up sports.”
The meeting at Lok Kalyan Marg, now circulating across social media platforms, offered fans a rare glimpse of candid conversations between the country’s leader and its latest sporting icons—celebrating not just a trophy, but a defining moment for women’s cricket in India.
