Two Terrorists Killed as Indian Army Foils Infiltration Bid Along LoC in Keran Sector
Nov 2025 : Two terrorists were killed after the Indian Army successfully foiled an infiltration attempt along the Line of Control (LoC) in the Keran sector of Jammu and Kashmir’s Kupwara district, defence officials said on Saturday.
According to defence sources, the encounter unfolded late Friday evening when troops detected suspicious movement near a forward defended location (FDL) named “Pimple” in the Keran sector. “Two terrorists have been neutralised in Operation Pimple in the Keran sector, where an infiltration bid was foiled late last evening,” the sources confirmed.
Soldiers of the 21 Grenadiers battalion, who were manning the FDL, noticed the movement close to the LoC and immediately engaged the infiltrators. “After observing suspicious movement near FDL Pimple, the soldiers opened fire, leading to a brief exchange of small-arms fire. Two terrorists have been eliminated in this ongoing operation so far,” officials added.
A large-scale search operation has been launched in the area to ensure no other infiltrators managed to slip across the LoC during the attempt. The operation is expected to continue until the entire zone is sanitised.
Security forces along the LoC remain on heightened alert as intelligence inputs suggest that terror handlers across the border plan to push infiltrators into Indian territory before heavy snowfall blocks several mountain passes. Winter conditions typically restrict movement across the rugged terrain, prompting increased infiltration attempts in the preceding weeks.
Jammu and Kashmir shares a 740-kilometre-long LoC with Pakistan-administered territory, extending across the districts of Baramulla, Kupwara, Bandipora, Poonch, Rajouri, and parts of Jammu. This sensitive boundary is manned primarily by the Indian Army.
In addition to the LoC, the region has a 240-kilometre-long International Border (IB) running through Jammu, Samba, and Kathua districts. The IB is guarded by the Border Security Force (BSF), which works in coordination with the Army to counter infiltration, prevent cross-border smuggling, and disrupt drug trafficking networks.
Inside Jammu and Kashmir, the J&K Police and various specialised security units conduct anti-terror operations, intercept drug networks, and crack down on hawala money channels. Security agencies believe that proceeds from drug smuggling, illegal financial transfers, and other unlawful activities ultimately help finance terrorism in the region.
In recent months, security forces have adopted a more aggressive counterterrorism strategy aimed at dismantling the entire support network of militancy. This includes targeting terrorists, overground workers (OGWs), logistical facilitators, and sympathisers who provide shelter, movement, communication, or financial assistance to militant groups.
The Keran sector encounter marks yet another example of the Army’s enhanced vigilance along the LoC as forces work to prevent infiltration ahead of the winter season.
