Aizawl District Plans New Secondary Collection Centres to Boost Ginger Marketing

Aizawl, Nov 2025: The Aizawl District Agriculture Marketing Committee (DAMC) held a meeting today at the Aizawl DC Conference Hall under the chairmanship of Deputy Commissioner Er. Lalhriatpuia. During the meeting, discussions focused on strengthening ginger marketing and ensuring efficient collection and distribution by establishing new Secondary Collection Centres (SCCs) at Chamring and Zuangtui.

The meeting reviewed the existing status of ginger cultivation and marketing across various Rural Development Blocks in Aizawl district and the performance of currently functioning SCCs. Based on a detailed assessment of the sites at E. Phaileng, Thingsul, Aibawk, and Sairang, it was decided that the Sairang SCC would be relocated, and new SCCs would be established at Zuangtui and Chamring to improve efficiency and outreach.

It was further discussed that for the SCCs to operate effectively and sustainably, proper coordination must be ensured in the procurement and supply chain of fresh ginger. Plans were made to strengthen these centres to handle larger quantities of produce with better logistics and processing facilities.

As per the Mizoram Agricultural Marketing Board (MAMB) guidelines, the DAMC also deliberated on appointing capable supervisors and supporting staff for each SCC. Detailed discussions were held regarding their responsibilities, eligibility criteria, and performance expectations to ensure smooth functioning.

The Deputy Commissioner emphasized that the establishment and strengthening of SCCs at Chamring and Zuangtui will significantly enhance the ginger marketing network, benefiting farmers by ensuring fair prices and timely collection of produce. The initiative is aimed at promoting agricultural growth and improving rural livelihoods in Aizawl district.
