AIU Suspends Al-Falah University’s Membership Amid Red Fort Blast Probe

University barred from using AIU logo; NAAC issues separate show-cause notice over false accreditation claim

New Delhi, Nov 2025 : The Association of Indian Universities (AIU) on Thursday suspended the membership of Al-Falah University, located in Faridabad, Haryana, with immediate effect, following its alleged links to individuals under investigation in the Red Fort car blast case in Delhi.

In a formal letter dated November 13, 2025, the AIU said the decision was made under its bylaws, citing “media reports indicating that the university does not appear to be in good standing.” The suspension came amid growing scrutiny of the private university after the deadly blast near Delhi’s Red Fort on November 10, which left 12 people dead and several injured.

The investigation revealed that Dr. Umar Un Nabi, the primary suspect in the explosion, had an association with Al-Falah University. Two other accused — Dr. Muzammil Ganaie and Dr. Shaheen Sayeed — were also reportedly connected with the institution.

Following the suspension, the AIU has directed the university to immediately stop using the AIU’s name and logo in any of its communications or activities. “Al-Falah University, Faridabad, Haryana, is not authorised to use the name or logo of AIU in any of its activities, and the AIU logo must be removed from the university’s official website forthwith,” the letter stated.

The move effectively bars Al-Falah University from participating in AIU-recognised academic forums, sports events, and exchange programs that require institutional membership.

Earlier in the day, the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) — based in Bengaluru — also issued a show-cause notice to the university’s School of Engineering and Technology in Fatehpur, for falsely claiming NAAC accreditation. The council noted that the university had misrepresented its accreditation status on public platforms and advertisements.

Located about 27 kilometres from the Delhi–Haryana border on Raga Road in Dhauj, Faridabad, Al-Falah University has found itself at the centre of a national controversy following reports of explosives recovered during the investigation. The Red Fort blast, one of the most serious terror incidents in recent years, has prompted widespread security alerts and a deeper probe into potential institutional links of the accused.
