Janjatiya Gaurav Diwas 2025 Observed in Lunglei

Lunglei, Nov 2025: As part of the nationwide celebration of the 150th Birth Anniversary of tribal freedom fighter Bhagwan Birsa Munda and in honour of India’s rich tribal heritage, the “Janjatiya Gaurav Diwas (Tribal Pride Day)” was observed today at the DC Conference Hall, Lunglei.

During the programme, Lunglei Deputy Commissioner Pi Navneet Mann, accompanied by Additional DC Pi Rochuangkimi Khenglawt and Sub-Deputy Commissioner Pi Lalnunchhani Hnamte, offered floral tributes and paid solemn homage to Bhagwan Birsa Munda and Mizo heroine Lalnu Ropuiliani.

Speaking on the occasion, DC Pi Navneet Mann highlighted the courage, leadership, and historic contributions of Lalnu Ropuiliani, particularly her defiance against colonial forces and her role as one of the most revered women leaders in Mizo history. She also noted that under the Ministry of Tribal Affairs (MoTA), several key initiatives—including DAJGUA, Adi Karmayogi, and Janjatiya Gaurav Varsh (JJGV)—are being implemented across India to uplift tribal communities and promote inclusive development.

The programme was chaired by SDC Pi Lalnunchhani Hnamte, who outlined the significance of observing Janjatiya Gaurav Diwas. She also highlighted various activities organised across the district under the Janjatiya Gaurav Varsh Pakhwada (1–15 November 2025), which include painting competitions, traditional musical instrument performances, free health camps, cultural activities, and initiatives promoting traditional art forms and identity.

Her descendant, Pu Sailoliana of Rahsi Veng, Lunglei, shared insights about her life, her struggle against British forces, and her lasting legacy, while expressing gratitude to the district administration for honouring her memory.
