Delhi’s Drive for a Clean, Safe and Pollution-Free City Gains Momentum
Chief Minister Rekha Gupta Conducts Inspection of the Najafgarh Drain and Surrounding Areas
Directs Officials to Construct Boundary Walls, Develop Green Belts, and Ensure Robust Sanitation Measures
New Delhi, Nov 2025 : Reaffirming her commitment to making Delhi clean, safe and pollution-free, Chief Minister Smt. Rekha Gupta today inspected Road No. 41 near the Najafgarh Drain (formerly known as the Sahibi River). The Chief Minister reviewed ongoing development works and local issues across several key locations around the drain, including Shubham/RBI Block, Outer Ring Road, Meera Bagh Seva Basti, Sonia Camp and Paschim Puri Crossing. She directed officials to ensure that all development and sanitation works are completed on time and maintained to the highest standards of quality.
MP Praveen Khandelwal, MLA Karnail Singh and officials from the concerned departments accompanied the Chief Minister during the inspection. She noted that the absence of a boundary wall along the Najafgarh Drain had resulted in the accumulation of waste on its banks. Issuing clear instructions, she directed officials to construct a boundary wall to prevent further dumping. She also called for the development of green belts in the area to improve environmental conditions and enhance the aesthetic appeal of the surroundings. Expressing displeasure over the garbage piled at several points, she instructed the departments to ensure proper and regular waste disposal, along with stricter monitoring to prevent unauthorised dumping.
During the visit, the Chief Minister interacted with residents of the Seva Basti and neighbouring areas, listening to their concerns regarding road construction, shortage of electricity poles, drain cleaning and the availability of toilets. Taking prompt action, she directed officials to address these issues on priority and expedite the construction of public toilets wherever needed. She further stressed that trees should be transplanted, rather than felled, wherever feasible. To reduce dust pollution, she emphasised the need for wall-to-wall road construction to eliminate loose soil along road edges. Expressing concern about the condition of stray cattle, she instructed officials to ensure safe management, effective monitoring and swift action for their welfare.
The Chief Minister reiterated that making Delhi clean, safe and pollution-free is a firm commitment of her government. She added that addressing public grievances through regular on-site inspections remains her top priority.
