Bihar Set for Historic Day as Nitish Kumar Takes Oath for 10th Term at Gandhi Maidan

Patna, Nov 2025 : Bihar is preparing for a landmark moment as Nitish Kumar will be sworn in as Chief Minister for the 10th time on Thursday, November 20, at Patna’s iconic Gandhi Maidan. The ceremony is set to be one of the largest political events the state has seen, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi attending as the chief guest.

The grand swearing-in is expected to draw more than three lakh people, turning Gandhi Maidan into a massive public arena. Officials describe the preparations as “festival-like,” reflecting the scale of the National Democratic Alliance’s (NDA) sweeping victory in the recent Bihar Assembly elections.

A significant turnout of women is anticipated at the ceremony—an acknowledgment of the decisive role women voters played in the NDA’s landslide victory. Their overwhelming support surprised many political analysts and has been widely credited as a key factor behind the alliance’s triumph. To ensure their comfort and security, the district administration has created dedicated areas and deployed additional women security personnel inside the venue.

The event will witness the presence of several national and state leaders from across the country. Alongside Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, BJP National President J.P. Nadda, and other top party figures will attend. A long list of Chief Ministers and senior leaders from NDA-ruled states will also grace the ceremony.

Dignitaries expected include Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav, Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Manjhi, Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma, Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, and Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha, among others.

With all arrangements at Gandhi Maidan now complete, officials say Bihar is set to witness a truly historic moment as Nitish Kumar begins yet another chapter in his long political journey.

Traffic Advisory for November 20 (6:00 AM–3:00 PM)

In light of the swearing-in ceremony, the Patna district administration has announced special traffic restrictions and diversions across the city to ensure smooth movement and security. These restrictions will be in force from 6 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Emergency vehicles—including ambulances, fire brigade vehicles, hearses, and those transporting patients—are exempt from the restrictions.

A no-vehicle zone has been declared in several key areas, including Bhattacharya Chowk to North Gandhi Maidan, Dakbangla Chowk, Rajendra Path, J.P. Golambar, Children’s Park, Thakurwadi crossing, and Bakerganj crossing. Vehicular movement will also be restricted near IMA Hall, Hotel Panna, Twin Tower, Maurya Hotel, and Ashok Rajpath.

For the general public, entry to Gandhi Maidan will be allowed through Gates 07, 08, 09, and 10. VIP pass holders will enter through Gate 04 via Budh Marg, near the Commissioner’s Office.

Dedicated VIP parking zones have been arranged at Magadh Mahila College, A.N. Sinha Institute, SBI premises, and Gyan Bhawan.

As the state gears up for the grand ceremony, all eyes will be on Gandhi Maidan on Thursday, where Bihar ushers in another era under Nitish Kumar’s leadership.
