PM Modi Congratulates Nitish Kumar on Historic 10th Oath as Bihar Chief Minister
New Delhi, Nov 2025 : Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday congratulated Nitish Kumar on being sworn in once again as the Chief Minister of Bihar, praising him as an “experienced administrator” with a long-standing record of good governance in the state.
Nitish Kumar took oath for a historic tenth term at Patna’s iconic Gandhi Maidan, where Governor Arif Mohammad Khan administered the oath of office and secrecy. The event drew national attention, with several senior leaders and a large gathering of supporters present at the venue.
Sharing his message on X, Prime Minister Modi wrote, “Congratulations to Shri Nitish Kumar Ji on taking oath as Bihar’s Chief Minister. He is an experienced administrator with a proven track record of good governance for many years. My best wishes to him for his tenure ahead.”
PM Modi arrived in Patna around 11 a.m. and flew by helicopter directly to Gandhi Maidan, making this the first time he has personally attended a swearing-in ceremony of Nitish Kumar. Although Nitish has taken oath five times since Modi became Prime Minister in 2014, this marks the first occasion where the Prime Minister was present in Patna for the ceremony.
Nitish Kumar, who took oath at 11:30 a.m., has had a unique and influential political journey. His first stint as Chief Minister in 2000 lasted only seven days due to a lack of majority. However, since returning to power in 2005, he has taken oath nine consecutive times, culminating in Thursday’s landmark tenth swearing-in.
Following Nitish Kumar, senior BJP leader Samrat Choudhary—an MLA from Tarapur—was sworn in as one of Bihar’s Deputy Chief Ministers. Vijay Sinha was sworn in next and has also assumed charge as Deputy Chief Minister, reinforcing the BJP’s strong representation in the new NDA-led government.
Several other ministers were administered the oath as part of the new Cabinet, including Vijay Kumar Choudhary, Mangal Pandey, Dilip Jaiswal, Shravan Kumar, and Bijendra Yadav. Their induction reflects a continuation of experienced leadership at the helm of Bihar’s governance structure.
After the ceremony, Prime Minister Modi personally congratulated the newly appointed ministers, signaling the Centre’s full support for the new government. With Nitish Kumar taking charge once again, the NDA aims to continue its governance agenda and maintain political stability in Bihar.
