Ganga Thapa Wins First Medal for SU in Judo at Khelo India University Games
Jaipur, Nov 2025 — Under the Khelo India University Games, various competitions officially commenced on Tuesday at Lakecity, Udaipur. This year, Lakecity is hosting exciting events including judo, kayaking, and beach volleyball. The inaugural ceremony took place at Atal Bihari Vajpayee Indoor Stadium, attended by dignitaries, sports officials, coaches, and athletes from different universities.

The ceremony began with the introduction of athletes. Udaipur Rural MLA Phool Singh Meena and SU Vice-Chancellor Prof. B.P. Saraswat formally welcomed the participants and wished them success in the competitions. Also present were District Council CEO Riya Dabi, UDA Commissioner Rahul Jain, social worker Gajpal Singh, Sports Authority of India Director Amit Singh, along with players and officials from various universities.
Udaipur City MLA Tarachand Jain, addressing the gathering, emphasized the government’s initiatives to promote sports talent. He said that education is important, but sports are equally vital, urging athletes to compete at their full potential to bring pride to the state and country. Udaipur Rural MLA Phool Singh Meena highlighted Mewar’s glorious tradition of valor and talent and encouraged participants to perform excellently.
SU Vice-Chancellor Prof. B.P. Saraswat underscored the significance of events like Khelo India, which provide a major platform for young sports talent nationwide. He added that sports not only enhance physical abilities but also play a key role in personality development and nation-building.
First Day Results:
District Sports Officer Dr. Mahesh Paliwal reported that men’s judo competitions in the 60 kg and 66 kg categories were held. In the 60 kg category, Anurag Sagar (DAV University, Punjab) won Gold, Om Sameer Hingmire (SRTM) Silver, while Rahul Verma (MSUS) and Yogesh Umesh Shahane (RTMN) received Bronze. In the 66 kg category, Vinay Kumar (Chaudhary Devi Lal University, Haryana) won Gold, Ayush Mauri (RTU) Silver, and Prashant Rajan Singh (HMNG) and Sabir Akram Chauhan (SGBA) Bronze.
In women’s 48 kg and 52 kg categories, Jahnavi Yadav (Gurunanak Dev University, Amritsar) won Gold in 48 kg, Ganga Thapa (Sukhadia University, Udaipur) Silver, and Sania NB (CUK University) and Shruti K (SS University) Bronze. In the 52 kg category, Mahak Singh (Punjab University) won Gold, Anumol (CUK University) Silver, and Manvi (CCS University) and Sandhya Tiwari (GND University) Bronze.
During the medal ceremony, Sports Authority of India Director Amit Singh, Rajasthan Judo Association Secretary Mahipal Grewal, Devasthan Department Additional Commissioner Gitesh Malviya, and SU Sports Council Secretary Dr. Bhimraj Patel honored the medal winners.
