Aizawl, Nov 2025: The first Annual General Meeting of the Indian Red Cross Society (IRCS), Mizoram State Branch, was held today at Durbar Hall, Raj Bhavan, Aizawl. The meeting was presided over by Mizoram Governor, General (Dr) Vijay Kumar Singh, PVSM, AVSM, YSM (Retd), who also serves as President of the IRCS Mizoram State Branch.

During the programme, the Governor formally launched six first-aid tutorial videos in the Mizo language, produced in collaboration with the Department of Information & Public Relations (I&PR) and the Zoram Medical College & Hospital (ZMC&H), and urged the public to make effective use of these resources.

Addressing the gathering, General (Dr) Vijay Kumar Singh commended the remarkable progress made by the Mizoram State Branch in a short span of time. He emphasised the core principles, ethos and objectives of the Red Cross movement, stressing the need for greater public awareness. The Governor encouraged members to remain steadfast in their commitment, reminding them that much work still lies ahead. He expressed confidence that the branch would achieve even greater milestones in the years to come.

It was highlighted that the Mizoram State Branch currently has 18 Life Members, along with more than 100 Youth Red Cross members enrolled from three colleges in Aizawl city – Government Aizawl College, Government Aizawl North College and Government T. Romana College. Members discussed strategies to further expand membership and activities. It was proposed that Red Cross societies be established in every district under the leadership of respective Deputy Commissioners. Collaboration with the Young Mizo Association (YMA) and other NGOs was also suggested to broaden outreach. Among future plans, priority will be given to organising first-aid training at Huhliap Short Stay Home, as well as conducting a half-marathon. A strong appeal was made to the public to show even greater interest and actively participate in Red Cross initiatives.

During the meeting, Chairman Pu H. Lalengmawia delivered the welcome address, while Secretary Dr. Chawnglungmuana presented the activity report for the period April-October 2025.
