Electoral Roll Special Brief Revision Program in Mumbai Suburban District
Eligible Citizens Are Invited to Register Their Names in the Electoral Roll.
MUMBAI : The Collector of Mumbai Suburban District and District Election Officer has announced that a special brief revision program of the voter list, based on the qualification date of July 1, 2024, is being implemented in the 26 assembly constituencies of Mumbai Suburban District. This program aims to increase voter turnout by providing better facilities to voters, said Officer Rajendra Kshirsagar.
Eligible citizens are encouraged to register their names in the voter list, according to Kshirsagar.
A press conference regarding this initiative was held at the Mumbai Suburban Collectorate, with Additional Collector Manoj Gohad and Deputy Collector (Elections) Tejas Samel in attendance.
Online Registration, Corrections, and Transfers Available
Collector and District Election Officer Rajendra Kshirsagar stated that under the special brief revision program of the voter list, citizens can register new names, correct existing entries, and transfer names in the voter list. All these services are also available online. Additionally, a house-to-house visit program has been planned through Booth Level Officers (BLOs).
Special voter registration camps have been organized on August 10th and 11th (Saturday and Sunday) and August 17th and 18th (Saturday and Sunday) of 2024.
Focus on Increasing Polling Stations in Cooperative Housing Societies
Currently, there are 7,574 polling stations in the Mumbai Suburban district. To increase voter turnout, efforts are being made to increase the number of polling stations within cooperative housing societies. Special emphasis is also being placed on consolidating polling stations to serve two or three housing societies. As of now, 553 polling stations have been relocated to cooperative housing societies.
Shifting Polling Stations to Permanent Buildings
Mr. Kshirsagar highlighted that special emphasis is being placed on relocating temporary polling stations from tents to permanent buildings.
Special Brief Revision Program of Electoral Rolls
This program includes a house-to-house survey conducted by BLOs, streamlining and restructuring polling stations, correcting discrepancies in the voter list, ensuring better-quality photos by replacing blurry or poor-quality images, and making necessary changes to non-human images in the voter list. It also involves reorganizing divisions, finalizing proposed reorganization boundaries, and obtaining approval for the list of polling stations. Additionally, control charts will be updated, and samples one through eight will be prepared. The draft electoral roll, based on the qualification date of July 1, 2024, is to be prepared during the period from Tuesday, June 25, 2024, to Monday, August 5, 2024.
The proforma voters’ list will be published on Tuesday, August 6. Claims and objections regarding the voters’ list will be accepted from August 6 to August 20. A special voter registration program, as determined by the Chief Electoral Officer, will also be conducted.
The deadline for resolving claims and objections, obtaining the Commission’s approval for the final publication, updating the database, and preparing the supplementary list is set for Thursday, August 29. The final voter list will be published on Friday, August 30.
