Sangeetsurya Keshavrao Bhosle Theater to be Rebuilt Anew – Guardian Minister Hasan Mushrif’s Statement
Kolhapur : Guardian Minister Hasan Mushrif has announced that the government will work towards rebuilding the Sangeetsurya Keshavrao Bhosle Theater, originally constructed by Rajarshi Chhatrapati Shahu Maharaj to promote the art of theater. Deputy Chief Minister and Finance Minister Ajit Pawar is set to visit Kolhapur in the next two days, and Minister Mushrif assured that efforts will be made at the government level to secure maximum funds for restoring this cultural landmark to its former glory.
The Keshavrao Bhosle Theater, built in Kolhapur in 1912 by Rajarshi Chhatrapati Shahu Maharaj, stands as a symbol of cultural heritage. Unfortunately, on the night of August 8, a fire broke out, causing significant damage to the theater. Upon arriving in Kolhapur on August 9 via the Mahalakshmi Express from Mumbai, Guardian Minister Hasan Mushrif visited the theater and the nearby Khas Bagh Maidan to inspect the damage. The minister expressed deep emotion upon witnessing the destruction of this historic site.
During his inspection, Minister Mushrif stated that the Sangeetsurya Keshavrao Bhosle Theater, a treasure of Kolhapur’s cultural movement, was a gift from Rajarshi Chhatrapati Shahu Maharaj after he visited Rome and was inspired by the theaters there. The fire is a tragic and heart-wrenching incident, and it is the duty of all representatives and the government to rebuild this cultural icon, possibly in a more modern and enhanced form. He also mentioned that there will be an investigation into the fire that ravaged this historic building.
Collector Amol Yedge, Municipal Commissioner Dr. K. Manjulakshmi, and former corporator Adil Faras were among the officials present during the inspection.
