Grand Rally Against Drug Abuse and Awareness Programme Held in Lunglei

Lunglei, December 2025: A “Grand Rally Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Drug Trafficking & Drug Awareness Programme” was organized today in Lunglei town under the joint efforts of the Lunglei District Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan (NMBA), District SP Office, District School Education Department, and District Legal Services Authority (DLSA). The initiative aimed to raise awareness about drug abuse and promote a drug-free lifestyle.

Around 600 students from various schools in Lunglei town participated in the rally. The march started from Kikawn and proceeded to Government High School (Chanmari). Students from Government High School were guided by Lunglei Senior Civil Judge Pi Lalthansiami Hnamte, while those from Kikawn were supervised by Lunglei Sub-Divisional Officer (Sadar) Pi TT Beikhaizi. The rally culminated at Saikuti Hall, Lungleiah, where awareness programmes on drug prevention were conducted.

During the Drug Awareness Programme, Deputy Inspector General of Police (Southern Range) Altaf Ahmad Khan addressed the participants. The programme focused on educating students and community members on the dangers of drug abuse, prevention strategies, and ways to avoid illicit drug involvement. The session also emphasized the importance of community cooperation in building a drug-free society.

Officials present at the event included District Education Officer Micky R. Lalenkawla, District Superintendent of Police J. Lalmuankima, DLSA Advocate ZD Lalnunsanga, and Sub-Inspector Vanlalfinga of the Excise & Narcotics Department. They highlighted various aspects of drug abuse prevention, legal measures, and rehabilitation support. Additionally, Lunglei Sub-Headquarters YMA President K. Lalfakzuala and Additional Deputy Commissioner Pi Zoramdini also addressed the participants.

The programme featured awareness videos and music performances with the theme “Rawlthar, ṭang fan fan” across school categories—Primary, Middle, and High Schools—to engage students effectively and reinforce the anti-drug message.

This initiative marks a continued effort by Lunglei District to educate youth, promote healthy lifestyles, and strengthen community involvement in creating a drug-free environment.
