Because No Child Should Lose Life for Lack of Money: The Healing Mission of Heal-a-Child Foundation

Hyderabad, December 2025 : For more than 15 years, Heal-a-Child Foundation has been quietly confronting one of the most painful injustices of our time — children losing their lives not because medicine failed them, but because poverty did. In an age of medical advancement and world-class hospitals, it is devastating that a child’s survival can still depend on money. Heal-a-Child exists to challenge that reality, one life at a time.
Since its inception, the foundation has helped save the lives of over 2,000 children, giving them a future that once seemed impossible. Each child represents a family pulled back from the brink of despair, a heartbeat restored, and hope rekindled where there was none.
A Foundation Built on a Simple Belief

Established in June 2010, Heal-a-Child Foundation is a charitable trust and non-profit organisation created with one unwavering belief: no child should die because their family cannot afford medical treatment. Unlike many charities that limit themselves to specific diseases or conditions, Heal-a-Child supports all sick children — without discrimination.
Whether it is a premature newborn struggling to breathe, a child with a congenital heart defect, a severe infection, cancer, or a rare medical condition, the foundation’s support is guided by need, not diagnosis. If a child is critically ill and the family lacks the financial means to continue treatment, Heal-a-Child steps in.
At the core of its work is compassion translated into action.
Saving the Most Fragile Lives

While Heal-a-Child supports children across age groups, its primary focus has naturally gravitated toward the most vulnerable — newborns and preterm babies. These tiny lives often require neonatal intensive care, ventilators, incubators, and prolonged hospital stays. The costs escalate rapidly, placing unbearable pressure on families who may already be living on the margins.
Heal-a-Child works closely with reputed hospitals across Hyderabad, building trusted partnerships to ensure timely intervention. Critically ill children are referred by hospital authorities who understand both the medical urgency and the family’s financial distress.
Each case undergoes careful evaluation. The foundation assesses the family’s financial capacity with transparency and sensitivity before extending support. Once approved, Heal-a-Child directly settles hospital bills, ensuring funds are used exclusively for treatment. This approach frees parents from crippling debt and allows doctors to focus solely on saving lives, unhindered by financial uncertainty.
The Story That Started It All
Behind Heal-a-Child’s mission lies a deeply personal story that continues to define its soul.
Founder Sabina Xavier recalls learning about a six-month-old baby named Kevin, who had been on a ventilator for weeks. His parents had exhausted every rupee they had and were already ₹80,000 in arrears. As a young mother herself, Sabina felt an instant connection to the child’s suffering.
She verified the case, reached out to the hospital, and began raising funds. The response was overwhelming. People she barely knew stepped forward willingly, grateful for the chance to save a life.
Despite every effort, Kevin’s condition deteriorated. His organs failed one by one, and he passed away on May 10. Sabina never met him, but the image of his fragile body, surrounded by machines, never left her.
Kevin’s passing did not end the story — it began one.
“If a child is lost,” Sabina resolved, “it must never be because money stood in the way.”
Within days, she brought together friends, professionals, and well-wishers who shared the same conviction. Services were offered pro bono. Nine trustees came together, and Heal-a-Child Foundation was officially registered on June 7, 2010 — a promise born from loss, compassion, and hope.
