Revanth Reddy Thanks Lionel Messi and Team for Memorable GOAT India Tour in Hyderabad

Hyderabad, Dec 2025 : Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy on Sunday expressed his heartfelt gratitude to global football icon Lionel Messi and his teammates Luis Suarez and Rodrigo de Paul for making the GOAT India Tour event in Hyderabad a grand success and an unforgettable experience for sports enthusiasts.

Taking to social media platform X, the Chief Minister said he was delighted that the legendary footballers accepted the state’s invitation and visited Hyderabad, inspiring thousands of fans, especially the youth. He noted that the presence of Messi, widely regarded as one of the greatest footballers of all time, created an electrifying atmosphere in the city and showcased Hyderabad as a global destination for major sporting events.

Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, who also participated in a friendly match against Messi’s team at the Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium, thanked Lok Sabha Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi for attending the event and adding to its significance. He described the evening as a “memory of a lifetime” for sports lovers across the state.

The Chief Minister also extended his appreciation to government officials, security personnel, event organisers and staff who worked tirelessly to ensure the smooth conduct of the programme. He said the successful hosting of the event reflected Telangana’s commitment to sports, excellence and warm hospitality, while also demonstrating the state’s capability to organise international-level events.

Revanth Reddy further thanked sports fans and the general public for their disciplined behaviour and enthusiastic participation, which contributed to the event’s overall success and positive global impression.

The celebrations in Hyderabad featured a vibrant musical concert and an impressive laser show, with popular performances by Rahul Sipligunj and Mangli, adding a festive touch to the football spectacle.

Ahead of the friendly match, a special ‘Meet & Greet’ programme was organised in honour of Lionel Messi at the iconic Falaknuma Palace. The event was attended by the Chief Minister, Rahul Gandhi and several distinguished guests, who had the opportunity to interact with the football legend.

During his visit, Messi was seen engaging warmly with fans, posing for photographs, kicking a football with children and interacting with officials, further delighting admirers. His Hyderabad appearance came shortly after controversy surrounded his brief and limited appearance at the Salt Lake Stadium in Kolkata, where fans had expressed disappointment after paying high ticket prices.

The Hyderabad leg of the GOAT India Tour, however, stood out as a well-organised and celebratory event, leaving fans with lasting memories and reinforcing the city’s growing stature on the international sports map.
