Social Welfare & Tribal Affairs Minister Pi Lalrinpuii Lays Foundation Stone for MUP Multi-Service Centre

Aizawl : Social Welfare & Tribal Affairs, Women & Child Development Minister Pi Lalrinpuii laid the foundation stone for the Mizoram Upa Pawl (MUP) Multi-Service Centre at Middle School Veng, Zemabawk, today at 4:00 PM. The event was attended by Dr. Lalhriatzuali Ralte, IAS, Director of Social Welfare & Tribal Affairs.

In her speech, Minister Pi Lalrinpuii acknowledged the MUP members as pillars of the Mizo community, who have contributed greatly through their wisdom and experience. She emphasized the importance of understanding the needs of the elderly and reiterated the government’s commitment to their welfare. She also mentioned plans to establish Old Age Homes in every district, and the proposal to set up an Old Age Home near the Zemabawk MUP Multi-Service Centre is already in motion. The Minister urged the MUP members to continue bringing their needs and difficulties to the Department’s attention so that they could work together effectively. She also expressed her desire for the successful completion of the MUP Multi-Service Centre.

Dr. Lalhriatzuali Ralte, Director of Social Welfare & Tribal Affairs, also expressed gratitude to the MUP General Headquarters and Zemabawk community leaders for their efforts in making the foundation stone ceremony a reality. She explained that the MUP Multi-Service Centre would be constructed under Article 275 of the Constitution, through the Ministry of Tribal Affairs’ initiative. She further mentioned that various schemes for the welfare of tribal communities are ongoing under this project and urged everyone to contribute to its success.

The event, held at the Middle School Veng Welfare House in Zemabawk West, was presided over by Pu Nghaklianmawia, President of the MUP General Headquarters, and organized by Vice President Pu Lalbiakmawia Khiangte. Er. Lalthankima, AE, from the Social Welfare & Tribal Affairs, Women & Child Development Department, presented the technical report. Several community leaders also shared their thoughts during the event. The program concluded with a vote of thanks by Pu K. Thanmawia, General Secretary of the MUP General Headquarters.

The MUP Multi-Service Centre at Zemabawk is being constructed with a budget of ₹2.9 crore, allocated under Article 275 of the Constitution through the Ministry of Tribal Affairs. Of this, ₹1 crore has already been received for the financial year 2023-2024.
