BJP, Mahayuti Alliance Secures Resounding Victory in Maharashtra Nagar Panchayat and Nagar Parishad Elections

Mumbai, Dec 2025: The results of Maharashtra’s recent Nagar Panchayat and Nagar Parishad elections have been announced, delivering a decisive win for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and its Mahayuti alliance. Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis stated that the BJP continues to be the top-ranked party in the state, securing the majority of key urban leadership positions.

Of the total 288 seats across Nagar Parishad and Nagar Panchayat bodies, the BJP won 129 Nagaradhyaksha posts, emerging as the single largest party. The Mahayuti alliance as a whole captured 75% of the Nagaradhyaksha positions, illustrating strong public support for the coalition. BJP candidates also secured 332 Nagar Sevak posts, accounting for 48% of all such positions.

Fadnavis remarked that this level of electoral success is unprecedented in Maharashtra over the past 20–25 years. He highlighted that the campaign remained largely positive, with no opposition leader or candidate engaging in personal attacks. Instead, the focus was on development and governance initiatives, which resonated with voters.

Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar acknowledged the public mandate, saying it increases the government’s responsibility. He noted that the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) performed well in several Nagaradhyaksha seats and thanked voters across Pune district. Pawar congratulated all 288 elected representatives and addressed potential alliances in the upcoming municipal corporation elections, explaining that coordination with local leaders and deliberation with Sharad Pawar’s NCP faction is ongoing.

The results reflect the evolving political dynamics in Maharashtra, where voters prioritized stability, development, and effective leadership in urban and semi-urban areas. The Mahayuti alliance’s performance was particularly strong, with 215 seats won out of 288. BJP’s tally of 129 seats highlights its cadre strength, while the Shiv Sena (Shinde faction) secured 51 seats. The NCP under Ajit Pawar strengthened its independent base with 35 seats.

On the other hand, the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) remained limited to 51 seats, with Congress performing relatively better at 35 seats, but the alliance as a whole lagged behind. The Uddhav Thackeray faction of Shiv Sena and Sharad Pawar’s NCP captured only 9 and 7 seats respectively, reflecting leadership challenges within those parties.

These results are considered a precursor to the upcoming municipal corporation elections, including the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) and 28 other municipal bodies. Voting is scheduled for January 15, with counting on January 16. A total of 2,869 seats will be contested, with an estimated 3.48 crore voters expected to participate.

Following the defeat, opposition leaders, particularly Shiv Sena (UBT), criticized Congress for its poor performance, with Anand Dubey labeling it a “tourist party” that becomes active only during elections.
