Increase in Non-Conventional Power Generation Capacity through Surge Hydropower Projects (PSP) in the State – DCM Devendra Fadnavi

Mumbai : Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis emphasized the government’s commitment to significantly increasing investments in non-conventional energy generation projects, with a particular focus on establishing Surge Hydropower Projects (PSP) in the state.

At a recent ceremony, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between the Water Resources Department and Mahajanco, The Tata Power Ltd., and the Awada Group for the development of the Udanchan Hydropower Project. This initiative is expected to bring in an investment of Rs. 24,631 crores, generate 5,630 MW of electricity, and create approximately 10,300 jobs in the state.

The MoU was signed in the presence of Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis at the Sahyadri Guest House in Mumbai. Also present were Deepak Kapoor, Additional Chief Secretary of the Water Resources Department; Abha Shukla, Principal Secretary of the Energy Department; Dr. Shrikar Pardeshi, Principal Secretary to the Deputy Chief Minister; and other senior officials.

Deputy Chief Minister Fadnavis highlighted that a visionary plan has been developed to achieve 50 percent of the state’s total energy generation capacity from non-conventional energy sources by 2030. He noted that this initiative forms the cornerstone of Maharashtra’s energy generation strategy, marking a significant step toward meeting the growing energy demand and driving the state toward its goal of becoming a trillion-dollar economy through sustainable and green energy production.

“Renewable energy is not just an option but a fundamental pillar of our future economic stability,” said Deputy Chief Minister Fadnavis. He commended The Tata Power and Awada Group for their commitment and emphasized that through collaborative efforts, Maharashtra is poised to become a leader in green energy. He also noted that the agreement underscores the state’s dedication to expanding infrastructure through non-conventional energy sources and its proactive approach to promoting sustainable development and economic growth.
