Chhattisgarh Moving Ahead on the Path of Tribal Pride and Development: Chief Minister Vishnudev Sai

Raipur, December 2025 : The President of India, Droupadi Murmu, lauded the work, skills, and self-reliance of tribal women associated with self-help groups from Chhattisgarh’s Jashpur district during the inter-state tribal cultural confluence ‘Kartik Jatra’, held in Gumla, Jharkhand. She made special mention of the women linked with ‘Jashcraft’, noting that the jewellery and eco-friendly products made by them are strong examples of women empowerment.

President Murmu described the products made by women of the self-help group from Shabdamunda Forest Management Committee, village Kotanpani, under the Jashpur Forest Division, as inspiring symbols of tribal creativity, self-reliance, and cultural preservation. She said such initiatives not only enhance livelihood opportunities but also give new recognition to traditional art and handicrafts.

Chief Minister Vishnudev Sai said that the appreciation of the skills and self-reliance of Jashpur’s tribal women, especially those associated with Jashcraft, is a matter of pride for the entire state of Chhattisgarh. He said the jewellery and eco-friendly products prepared by the women of the Kotanpani self-help group are living symbols of the state’s rich cultural heritage and the hard work and creativity of its women.

The Chief Minister added that the affectionate blessings and encouragement from the President would further strengthen the confidence of tribal women, reinforce the resolve of Aatmanirbhar Bharat, and promote the spirit of “Vocal for Local.” On behalf of all tribal women of Jashpur, he expressed heartfelt gratitude to President Droupadi Murmu.

During the programme, exhibitions of tribal handicrafts, traditional folk art, and products made by self-help groups were a major attraction. The Chhattisgarh delegation showcased Jashpur’s distinctive craft traditions and local products, sending a strong message of tribal empowerment.

President Murmu said it is extremely important to connect youth and future generations with the traditions of tribal communities. While preserving their tribal heritage and identity, young people should move swiftly on the path of modern development. She expressed confidence that members of tribal communities would continue progressing while safeguarding their legacy.

Chief Minister Vishnudev Sai said it was a matter of great fortune that the inter-state tribal cultural confluence Kartik Jatra was organised at Manjhatoli in Jharkhand. He said the event not only honours cultural heritage but also acts as a bridge connecting tribal communities. Participating in this historic programme, he said, was a source of pride and faith for him.

The Chief Minister noted that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the entire country observes November 15, the birth anniversary of Bhagwan Birsa Munda, as Tribal Pride Day. He said Birsa Munda was not only a great freedom fighter but also a symbol of the protection of forests, water, and land, whose inspiration strengthened self-respect within tribal society.

He also acknowledged the contributions of leaders such as Pankajraj Saheb Kartik Oraon, who played a significant role in promoting education, social unity, and the preservation of tribal identity.

Addressing the gathering, Chief Minister Sai recalled that there was a time when Naxalism obstructed development in the Bastar region, preventing access to basic facilities such as roads, electricity, water, healthcare, and education. However, due to the strong leadership and clear policy of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah, the situation has changed. Development works are progressing rapidly in Bastar, security has strengthened, and governance is reaching villages.

He said Naxalism is now in its final phase, with more than 400 villages freed from its influence, bringing renewed hope to people’s lives. Roads, electricity, water, ration supplies, healthcare, and education facilities are now reaching these areas. The long-cherished dream of peace and development for the people of Bastar is becoming a reality. He added that the state government is also making continuous efforts to promote tourism, which will create new employment opportunities for local youth.

Chief Minister Vishnudev Sai further said it is a matter of happiness that the formation of states like Jharkhand and Chhattisgarh became possible due to the visionary leadership of former Prime Minister Bharat Ratna Atal Bihari Vajpayee. Today, the people of these states are moving forward with a distinct identity and rapid progress. He expressed confidence that this cultural confluence of states would continue to convey a message of peace, progress, and prosperity, and that a decisive victory over Naxalism would be achieved in the times ahead.
