Bengaluru Police Issue Detailed Traffic Curbs and Safety Measures for New Year Celebrations
Bengaluru, Dec 2025 :As Bengaluru prepares to usher in the New Year with large-scale celebrations, the Bengaluru Traffic Police have announced an extensive set of traffic regulations and safety measures that will be enforced from the evening of December 31 until the morning of January 1. Authorities have appealed to citizens to cooperate fully with the police to ensure smooth traffic flow, public safety, and overall security across the city.
Joint Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Karthik Reddy said the measures are aimed at maintaining law and order while allowing residents and visitors to celebrate responsibly. “As part of the New Year celebrations and to ensure smooth traffic movement across the city, the Bengaluru Police have imposed certain restrictions on December 31,” he said, adding that the arrangements are based on previous years’ experiences and expected crowd turnout.
To manage the increased vehicular movement, as many as 2,432 traffic police personnel along with 400 traffic wardens will be deployed at key junctions, arterial roads, and celebration hotspots. Their primary role will be to regulate traffic, prevent congestion, and act swiftly against violations.
Vehicular movement will be completely prohibited between 8 p.m. on December 31 and 2 a.m. on January 1 on several major roads in the Central Business District. These include MG Road, Brigade Road, Church Street, Residency Road, Rest House Road, St. Mark’s Road, and Museum Road. In addition, parking will be strictly banned on these roads from 4 p.m. on December 31 until 3 a.m. the next day.
To reduce inconvenience, the police have made alternative parking arrangements at designated locations such as UB City, Garuda Mall, Shivajinagar BMTC Complex, and Kamaraj Road. Parking has also been prohibited in and around major malls including Mall of Asia, Phoenix Mall, Orion Mall, and near popular pubs and entertainment establishments. Citizens have been urged to park vehicles only in authorised parking zones to avoid towing and penalties.
Emphasising the importance of reducing private vehicle usage, Reddy advised people to rely on public transport options such as Namma Metro, BMTC buses, tempo travellers, app-based cabs, and autorickshaws. “Using public transport will not only reduce congestion but also enhance safety during celebrations,” he said.
In busy areas such as the Central Business District, Koramangala, Indiranagar, and other popular destinations, separate pick-up and drop-off points have been arranged to help commuters travel back to their residential areas efficiently. Across the city, 166 police check posts will be set up to monitor traffic and conduct checks, particularly to curb drunken driving.
“So far, around 3,300 drink-and-drive cases have already been booked, and the drive will continue throughout the night of December 31,” Reddy said, warning that offenders will face strict legal action.
As an additional safety measure, 50 major flyovers across Bengaluru will be closed for vehicular traffic between 11 p.m. and 6 a.m. On the Airport Road flyover, only four-wheelers will be permitted, while two-wheelers will not be allowed during the restricted hours.
The police have also issued a stern warning against reckless behaviour on roads. “Strict action will be taken against wheelies, stunt riding, rash driving, and over-speeding,” Reddy said. In case of emergencies, citizens can dial the police helpline number 112.
Several road stretches in the city will remain under traffic restrictions. These include MG Road from Anil Kumble Circle to Residency Road Junction near Mayo Hall; Brigade Road from Cauvery Emporium Junction to Opera Junction; Church Street from Brigade Road Junction to Museum Road Junction; Residency Road from Ashirvadam Junction to Mayo Hall Junction; Museum Road from MG Road Junction to Old Madras Bank Road (SBI) Circle; Rest House Road from Museum Road Junction to Brigade Road Junction; and Residency Cross Road up to Residency Road Junction near Shankar Nag Theatre.
Designated cab and auto pick-up and drop-off points have been set up at BRV Junction on Cubbon Road, CTO Junctions on Queens Road and Raj Bhavan Road, BRV Grounds on Cubbon Road, and Trinity Circle on MG Road.
BMTC buses and tempo traveller services will originate from Anil Kumble Junction, Mayo Hall Junction, Decathlon near Opera Junction, Hosmat Hospital area, Trinity Circle, and Ashirvadam Junction. These services will operate on multiple routes, including Ashirvadam to Bannerghatta, Anil Kumble Junction to Banashankari, NICE Road Junction, Sunkadakatte, Marathahalli, Chikkajala, Madavara, Bagaluru, and Hoskote.

Routes will cover Electronic City, Whitefield, Mysore Road Satellite Bus Stop, Hoskote, Mahadevapura, Vijayanagara, and Goraguntepalya.
