LESDE Minister Participates in the ‘1st Meeting of Employees’ State Insurance Corporation Regional Board Mizoram’

Aizawl : This afternoon, the ‘1st Meeting of the State Insurance Corporation Regional Board Mizoram’ was held at the SAD Conference Hall-1, MINECO, under the Ministry of Labour & Employment, with the aim of enhancing the implementation of the Employees’ State Insurance (ESI) Act in Mizoram. The session was chaired by Pu Lalnghinglova Hmar, Minister of Labour, Employment, Skill Development, and Entrepreneurship. Joining him were Pu Robert Guite, Regional Director of ESIC, NER, and Dr. Richita Biswas, Medical Commissioner for the East and North East Zones, who presented updates on the progress and challenges of implementing the ESI Act in Mizoram. Representatives from the Mizoram Private School Owners Association, Mizoram Non-Government Hospital Association, Automobile Workshop Owners Association, NTUM, FOTUM, CITUM, and LESDE Department officials also attended the meeting.

In his address, Minister Pu Lalnghinglova Hmar emphasized the importance of the Employees’ State Insurance Corporation in providing substantial benefits to workers across various private institutions. He urged all participants to work together to maximize these benefits, including healthcare, compensation for work-related injuries, and support for those affected by disabilities. The Minister also encouraged the heads of various departments to actively participate in efforts to ensure that the maximum number of workers can benefit from ESIC’s coverage.

Pu Robert Guite, Regional Director of ESIC, NER, and Dr. Richita Biswas, Medical Commissioner for the East and North East Zones, shared updates on the progress of ESIC in Aizawl. Since the scheme’s implementation in 2022-23, 1,960 individuals have enrolled, and this number has now risen to 2,634. ESIC operates 161 hospitals, 1,574 dispensaries, and 13 medical colleges across India, with six seats reserved for the wards of Insured Persons (IPs) in ESIC Medical Colleges.

The meeting also provided a detailed overview of the Employees’ State Insurance (ESI) Act, which has been operational within the Aizawl Municipality since December 1, 2015. The Branch Office was established on February 8, 2016, at R.Z. Annex Building, House No. A-107/E, 4th Floor, Zodin Square, Tuikual South, Aizawl – 796001. It is managed by the Branch Manager and staff. The ESI Dispensary is located at Zaluta Building, 1st Floor, Venghlui (Near Treasury Square), Aizawl-796001.

The ESI Dispensary in Aizawl and its partnered medical/diagnostic centers include:

  1. Synod Hospital, Durtlang
  2. State Referral Hospital, Falkawn
  3. Aizawl Adventist Hospital, Zotlang
  4. Nazareth Hospital, Chaltlang
  5. Trinity Diagnostic Centre, Zarkawt
  6. Genesis Laboratory, Dawrpui

ESI members can receive various treatments (OPD/Admit/Tests) at these facilities. Treatments are administered as per the requirements of each case. The Employees’ State Insurance Corporation (ESIC) is a statutory body under the Ministry of Labour & Employment, Government of India, providing benefits under the ESI Act of 1948. These include support for sickness, maternity, disability, and dependents’ welfare, among others.

The ESI Scheme covers a wide range of employment sectors (Road Transport, Hotels & Restaurants, Cinemas, Newspapers, Shops, Educational/Medical Institutions, etc.), and is applicable to any establishment with 10 or more employees. Workers earning up to Rs. 21,000/- are eligible for these benefits.

After enrollment, employees contribute 0.75% of their wages, while employers contribute 3.25% towards the ESI Scheme.

  10. Atal Beemit Vyakti Kalyan Yojna (ABVKY)
  11. MBBS Quota for wards of Insured Persons (IP)
