Orientation And Consultation Workshop On State Tribal Welfare & Development Policy Held

Aizawl : The State Tribal Resource & Training Centre (STRTC), under the Social Welfare & Tribal Affairs, Women & Child Development Department, organized an “Orientation cum Consultation Workshop on State Tribal Welfare & Development Policy, Mizoram” today at Aijal Club. The event was chaired by Pi Lalrinpuii, the Minister of Social Welfare & Tribal Affairs, Women & Child Development.

In her address, Pi Lalrinpuii expressed her gratitude for the initiative to draft a Tribal Policy tailored specifically for Mizoram, marking a significant milestone for the state’s indigenous people. She emphasized that this policy would bring remarkable progress to the State Tribal Resource & Training Centre, adding that she is confident about the future advancements the policy will foster. She also expressed her appreciation for the key stakeholders’ participation in this event, highlighting its importance in paving the way for tribal welfare and development.

Speaking at the event, Pi Lalzarmawii, IAS, Commissioner & Secretary of the Social Welfare & Tribal Affairs, Women & Child Development Department, stressed the importance of the policy’s strategic planning and execution. She mentioned that the UNDP would be providing four staff members to support the initiatives under the Tribal Affairs, with interviews already scheduled and to be finalized soon.

During the workshop, Dr. Lalhriatzuali Ralte, IAS, Director of the Social Welfare & Tribal Affairs Department and Director of STRTC, delivered a comprehensive presentation using PowerPoint. She highlighted the progress of tribal development across India, discussing various policies and guidelines formulated by the Central Government. However, she pointed out that there is a need for a distinct State Tribal Policy for Mizoram to align with the vision for Mizoram in 2047. She also spoke about the ongoing efforts under the Central Government’s ‘Support to TRI’ scheme and the significant work being done by the State Tribal Resource & Training Centre.

Today’s event saw participation from various government department heads, civil society organizations, voluntary groups, Social Welfare Department officials, members of the IAS Association (Mizoram), representatives of different tribes in Mizoram, and members of the press.
